I need some help... I just got a new mac, a G4 powerbook which is really cool.. the problem is that a friend of mine set his name as the administrator.

Though he gave me the password and everything, I would still like to change his admin name to mine, but whenever I try to doing it so, the computer goes crazy and deletes stuff...

How can I do that???? huh.gif

Indeed I tried, but the thing is that the hard drive recognizes his "name" as the admin still, meaning that all the forlders (such as desktop, library, music, documents, pictures...) they all appear under his name. Then, whatever I do to change that turns into a total chaos..

Plus, the icon that says HOME has got is name still..

How do I change that? cry.gif

The only way is to make a new user, you, then delete his. Renaming a user's account is like renaming the Windows directory on a PC - it's just not worth the effort.

Yep.

Open the accounts, create a new administrator account.

Now, move all the files that you want to keep from your friend's account into the Shared folder.

Log out and log into your new account you just created.

Now, make sure you've got everything and then delete the old administrator account your friend set up.

That should work! If not, then make sure you're making a second administrator account (you have given yourself administrator powers) otherwise it won't work. If you find yourself renaming a folder, then you've done it wrong.
