This is the blue version for now. There will be more colors if people like this. I wasnt planning on releasing it, but people wanted it, so here it is. Keep here and request a different color if you want it.
DOWNLOAD HACKED SEER
b.t.w. There is a quicknotes skin to match the theme and fit next to winamp. It is not original totally, so if the creator, who I think is Dangeruss has a problem, mail me.
Screen:
Awesome! I have been waiting for this and I am glad to be one of the first to download it, well, at least first to reply.

Nice.. but you changed to many things to blue
Problem:
You can't read the text when you pull up certain menus. For example, if you pull up display properties, under the "Themes" tab. You have the option of:
Ok, Cancel and Apply. You cannot read the Apply button. The font colour blends too close to the actual button.
Second problem:
If your programs list, under the start menu is two bars long, the second bar doesnt show the "blue" stripe that the first bar has.
Cheers,
Chem

Well all the problems you are mentioning are from original Seer then. I just changed colors. And, faction, what was blue that shouldnt have been. All I really did was buttons and the systray and start button.
I will try to fix those problems, though I didnt make them.
P.S. That color problem with the blending text will be fixed soon when I have time.
yesssss!!!!! but uhhh... i still have these same errors, only they are blue
i really want to use this theme but the systray bug really kills me

There is a quicknotes skin that redrope/I made... hopefully we can get that to all of you soon.

Yeah, we need a winamp skin to match the blue/grey seer

Regarding Seer's origins and permission status.
Essorant (Tim Dagger) begat Seer as a Windowblinds skin and a NextStart theme. I became involved when I asked to port the basic elements into several other skins. see
My Seer stuff for 15 other Seer skins before reinventing something to accompany Seer (hacked or otherwise).
I made revisions to the Seer skin and offered it alongside the others in the collection.
Kol did the XPtheme conversion (with permission) and now we have Brad (redrope) doing this "hacked" version.
All these variations are cool with me, but should include credits to both Essorant and Dangeruss when you're showing off, or offering for download, your Seer inspired goodies.
Thanks!

i think i would like a brighter blue version, something more vibrant. the shade of blue you have now is more graphite than anything else. it looks nice, don't get me wrong, but i would like to see a brighter color on the theme.

Redrope and myself have talked about this...
We're planning on making Hacked.Seer in various colors:
Green, Red, Light Blue, Dark Blue. If there are any requests, please tell us.
I'm making the winamp skin to accompany this as well as an alternative ezpop skin, and redrope is making a trillian skin and an ezpop skin as well.
Look for all of these to pop up this weekend.
Redrope (Brad) and I (Jason) know eachother in person and go to school together, so we've got this planned out pretty well.
Btw, that quicknotes skin that Brad put in the .zip file was made by me, but I used the previous quicknotes skin and changed it around dramatically so it isn't really a ripoff, and modifications were done by Brad.

As Dangeruss just stated, why reinvent the wheel? There are already 15 skins in his
Seer Collection. Winamp is among them.
redrope
May 17 2002, 20:59
We arent talking about "reinventing the wheel". We are just saying that we are gonna modify some of the skins to match the themes and we are gonna make a new ezpop because in our opinion the other one is far to big.

You're just begging to be flamed with that comment. While it's often nice to make something original, it's also nice for people to convert nice styles so that more people can use them. Several WindowBlinds themes have been ported to the StylesXP format and several StylesXP themes have been converted to WindowBlinds formats.
More people are being exposed to the original artists work and I don't see anything wrong with that (as long as the original artist gets full credit of course).

This is a very touchy area, intellectual property. It's always best to seek full permission before porting or copying someone elses theme.

How much more permission can we get? What do you suppose we do? Who else do we need to consult with?
I think some of you are getting out of hand. We're not here selling anything, and we're certainly not taking all the credit for ourselves. We gave credit to where it was needed, the original creators of Seer and the ones who modified it for msstyles.
Besides, it's nice of us to even give credit. You know, we really don't have to, considering nothing is copyrighted... But we have given credit, because we realize that the original artists went through time and work to create Seer, so there shouldn't be any complaining anyway. 'Nuff said.

This design is about 2 years old, there's nothing new about porting someone's elses work. My gripe was that originally no permission was stated and that now, the Seer msstyle on ThemeXP contains Dangeruss' work with no mention of him being the author. This is something that is not acceptable in the skinning/graphics community.
What's it to me? I've been in the graphics community for about 5 years and I despise ripping or those who post someone elses work without their permission.

Do I run ThemeXP? No I don't, so why are you complaining to me? I don't care how old the design is, it rules. We've given credit where it's needed, and we haven't claimed any rights to it. I never said I was the original author of this, I'm just simply building onto a work of art. Redrope decided he wanted to release it, so he did. I'm just helping him out with some skins.

Your holier than thou attitude isn't going over well. I don't care how long you've been in the "graphics community." As far as I know you could by lying. Everyone despises ripping off other people's work. Did I rip off someone else's work? NO. Please give some thought before babbling comments, it's irritating to have to consistently correct you.

This has been your best comment yet... I love it. Keep them coming...
True colors? I'm just simply stating what I
could do. But did I claim the original Seer as my own? NO. Did I just go along with this not giving any credit? NO. Did we not ask permission to modify Seer? NO, we did ask permission. What are you trying to get at? People aren't stupid... we've clearly written and explained that this isn't our original artwork. Thus the name, "Hacked Seer." We never stole anything, so I think you need to calm down a little bit and take a chill pill.

If you didn't take yourself so serious this would really be hilarious.
As I stated earlier, my first gripe was that before Dangeruss post, nothing was stated anywhere about seeking permission from the original authors before porting. I didn't accuse you or anyone else of doing it, just stated it here so hopefully credit for the original would be acknowledged.
Why am I complaining to you? I was simply responding to you after you quoted me, as I am now.
And sure I could be lying, come to DeskMod.com and ask anyone you like if you wish. My attempt to explain "what is it to you" evidently went clear over your head.
And for the third or fourth time, whoever posted this theme on StyleXP not only can't spell Dangeruss, they've helped themselves to his wallpaper and winamp skin and included it as their own. Nothing states otherwise.

1. Permission has been given now, so why continue bickering? It's not worth arguing about on your part. Give it up.
2. You are complaining about us supposively "not giving credit." Well, we did. So please end this.
3. I don't really care about your past, as I said before. I'm not a regular at DeskMod.com, so this doesn't concern me. You do your thing, and I'll do mine.
4. For the 43543435 time, I DIDN'T POST IT AND REDROPE DIDNT EITHER! Why do you keep saying this when I keep telling you I have no idea why its on themexp like that. This wasn't my doing, so drop it.
And you think I'm being too serious about this? Stop complaining and let everyone enjoy the artists' work. If you have such a problem with themexp, tell the webmaster there or something. Don't sit around complaining that nothing is being done about it when you're not doing anything yourself.

I am with you Spoonman, you have given credit to the creator of the skin, saying that this is not your creation is enough, at the end of the day you are not making any money out of it.
This is such a childish and silly argument, how old are you Adonai, 5 years old????
Go on boy , get a life!!!!

phobic: that is the the point. just download this Hacked Seer and look at the readme: "This is not totally original. It was just edited to fit next to the winamp skin for seer. If this is violating anyones copyright or anything send me an email at:
bknollenberg@prodigy.net"
it is quite obvious that redrope does neither give credit to the original creator of Seer (Essorant), nor did he ask him if he could use his design.
see: people are posting huge amounts of text on this forum. why not sending a mail to Essorant, telling him that you like his art, why you like his art, why you want to do a port/conversion and attach the skin and/or a screenshot of what you have done? what´s wrong with that?
nice

Ok guys, its pretty sad that this thread has turned into a big flame war, so I'm gonna remove the link on the first page to the download and stop making the new Hacked Seers. For all of those that were looking forward to it, its too bad that these flamers in here had to go and ruin it.
Dangeruss posted earlier, and from what I understood, he said that it was ok for me to use his stuff. I also asked KoL if I could change the colors around and he agreed. I didnt ask essorant, and I know I should have. It was a mistake.
For all of those that are flaming because we are making new skins.. wtf.. Why do you even care if we make new skins. Some of them are too big or dont fit in my desktop, so I thought I would make some new ones. So what? What are you going to do about it.
So, this is goodbye to Hacked Seer.

Maybe if people will get their heads out of their asses and not rip on us because we are making our own skins, and maybe if people would stop being like "omg.. omg.. you need 1241293 more permissions! BWAHH" then MAYBE I would continue my work, but probably not.
sp00nman
May 18 2002, 18:16
Well now everyone knows who to blame. I guess I'll just discontinue the skins I was working on since there's not much of a point to continue going with this... I thought we gave enough credit to where it was needed, and we received permission from the creators so I'm still confused as to why there has been so much flaming. Maybe because of jealousy? Maybe some people are just upset that they weren't involved with Hacked Seer? Who knows.
Maybe we should have gotten permission from Microsoft, too, eh redrope? After all, they made Windows XP and technically we're ripping of their OS. blah.
Too bad we had to stop this... I'm sorry to anyone who was interested in Hacked Seer.

We even stated that this wasn't our work of art. We never released it anywhere on the net, except in this thread alone... so everyone knows we didn't create the original piece. I wish that were possible, but unfortunately we're getting flamed by a couple of kids from the other side of the net. It's tough to deal with somebody when you can't even talk over the issue to their face.

I wish there was someway we could fix this, but redrope doesn't want to deal with this anymore, and I agree with him. We really had a lot coming, but unfortunately people like these ruin it for the rest of the crowd. Sorry fellas.
