So I go to turn on my mini for the first time expecting OSX, but instead I see something about Cashmere and all these hardware tests begin to run. Some of the tests were failing too, which made me even more worried. This was my first time ever using a mac, so I freaked out and called tech support. I eventually was walked through the process of reformatting, and all was right again. I know this is never the case, but this mini gave me more of a headache than any computer I've ever built.

Still love it though biggrin.gif

How very odd! I've never heard any out-of-the-box problems before, but I guess they want to ship these as quickly as possible.

Enjoy it! Don't forget to post some picies!

right, never heard about that with any of the mac computers on this board, maybe its cause your mac mini is special!

Anyways good purchase and go post pictures in the 'Post your Apple Hardware" thread.

There's always going to be a lemon in every batch, unfortunately, you were the one that got it. Glad that you got the problems worked out though. It happens with every brand and model of computer. I was working for a large company once and we were getting in a few hundred Dells to replace some older machines (I had the unfortunate boring job of loading a pre-made image on each and every one of them). We had something like a 5% DOA rate. Dell told us that we were about average no.gif

haha nice. But i think blaming FedEx is better.......

getting back on topic, how strange that it didnt work out of the box, but luckily it wasnt any sort of hardware issue.

Actually, it was the last 1.42 ghz model from the Lenox Square Apple store in Atlanta. Strange thing was that it was about 4:30 pm and they weren't sold out yet. There were a lot of the 1.25 ghz models left too.

And although the problem was a headache, I did learn a lot about Macs in the process (still have a lot more to go).

i can't afford one for at least a year. (i'm getting my 1st job so i can repair the car i bought for $280 and runs fine but need the turn signals to work when i get my license). Isn't the mini like 499$ US for the standard. i would upgrade to 1 gig of memory and the keyboard and mouse though.

I had planned on pooling cash and buying one in April right after my b-day, but I broke down and got a new cell phone and plan today as a very early present from my mom, so I doubt I have enough come April. More than likely, I'll buy something like a LCD to use my iBook in a nice big res, or a bluetooth dongle and Apple bluetooth keyboard.
