Like I already stated, you don't switch inputs on the laptop; it has to be done through VIVO/video capture software, so you would see it in a window just like any other program running on your laptop. And the desktop doesn't "release" the signal, you have to tell it to to output on the SVideo port as a secondary monitor.

And tkyoshi makes an excellent point about poor signal quality.
Why can't you just use remote desktop?
