gunna order a contract fone, and after lots of thought i was gunna choose the 6230, but last night i had a play on a friends K700i and now i'm torn again! the video and camera are v.good but so is the 6230 infact most of their features are similar except the k700i has a light on the camera!

are there any other features or things ppl know which make one fone better than the other?

help deciding appreciated

i chose nokia cos i like nokia software more, and i liked the big middle button better on it

they are both very good phones, i think its just gonna come down to personal preference

go try them both out again

i got a K700i, had it since september and cant stop loving it, even now i find new features lol

i've always liked nokia myself cant beat the 3210 but after playing with the K700i i kinda like its style and the advantage is that is has a light and has clearer video.s i have just been on the K700i site and come across the S700, this looks amazing the camera quality is really good... what about that phone is it better than the K700i and is it quite large?

looks like its the k700i, no1 seems to has reccomended the s700 and it only has 32 memory where the k700i has 41mb... do they not support sd cards or anything? thats an advantage to the 6230

When I played with the S700 i didnt like it (as a K700i user). It felt quite cheap, and the turny screen thing would really píss me off when I needed to answer it...

Best thing about the K700 is the MYRIAD of themese available.

I recommend when (or if) you get your K700i you get it on Orange, you get a DSS-25 sync station (around £15) and you update to new firmware.

My syncstation's in the post. At last I can put 100s of themes and Java games on there!

K700i r0x0rs. Really, better than any Nokias I've ever used and they do actually update their firmware once in a while.

Maybe I'm biased since I have used nothing but Ericsson and Sony Ericsson all my life. I started out on the Ericsson T20, moved to a SE T100, then to a SE T610 and then finally to a SE K700i about 7-8 months ago.

I havent found a phone better than the K700i yet which has the same all -round performance that the K700i does. The only phones cooler than it are the ones which have 2 cameras and /or have video transmission built in.

Nokia may have market share, but nothing looks as good or feels as cool as a K700i. Trust me. You won't regret it. I never have.

Im using a K700i, have been using SE phones for a long time, mainly because of their innovations and features (colour screen with bluetooth anyone?) but it has its fault as well. One of the most annoyingest thinigs about the phone is the speed, its quite slow in comparision to a 6230 and the battery life isnt as good. But then saying that though the interface design is miles ahead of the competition!

In my opinion,the camera quality of Nokias have always been better looking and clearer, but then SE have always used higher resolution screens (view a picture taken on a 6230 on a k700 and ull see wat i mean). That said though, the 6230 is much faster because of its simple menu system (unlike the heavy graphics based, with transparency interface on thek700). Also the 6230s idea of theme support is a joke!




This is true to a certain degree, the 6230i is to be released soon with a 1.3Mp camera, not sure about the screen improvements, from wat ive seen its the same with maybe a slightly higher resolution a for the new interface erm yes Think of safe mode in windows, u know how u get 16 colors instead of normal32-bitcolours? Thats wat it looks like, a safe mode version of the k700 interface


If u want a better camera, wait for the 6230i, for anything else and that wicked torch (comes in so useful i love it!!) get teh k700. There wont be a replacement for the k700 until summer i think.

I have the 6230, and my brother has the K700i. My cam is way better than his, the videos are also much better. They have a very good framerate compared to the K700i.

The only thing the Nokia doesn't have, is the light on the camera. But I don't care about that at all. I think the Nokia is better in a lot of ways. The biggest advantage still is the ability to have MMC cards in your phone. That's something the K700i doesn't have.

The K700i isn't a bad phone, but I just think the 6230 beats it in many ways.

i care about the light, so thats a good thing, but yeah the fone only has 41MB memory and not being upgradeable is a bit of a disapointment... saying that i have used the fone and he has ALOT of mp3's pictures and video stored and has quite a bit of free space left. i've also seen some videos on the 6230 and when it's moved (while recording) it bcomes somewhat pixelated, never taken a video with the k700i so i dunno wat its like... anyway al soon find out

The difference is HUGE, the nokia camera is much better...

It does get pixelated, but that's the same with the K700i. My brother made a video of me, where I was drumming. Well I can say, I couldn't even see myself move properly when I saw the video. It was very slow.

Then I did the same thing with my phone, when my brother was drumming. You could see the difference very well. I could see everything he did very clearly, just because of the fast framerate of my phone.

The k700 has a way better screen. if im going to get a mid-end phone i sure as hell am not going back to 128x128.

You chose the right phone... K700i > 6230. And to respond to people complaining about the limited space of 41MB, try putting a file greater than 6 MB on your 6230

You can fit more music in your K700i by compressing to MP4 format.

why 6230 is better :

* EDGe phone
* better compactiblity
* smaller than SE k700i
* expandable memory
* hot swapping of memory cards
* Express on covers or changable covers
* also the night mode operation of K700i sucks

And compression is no good.. It's better to have a 1GB MMC card in your phone. You won't have to compress anything then

You made a good choice. I started off with Nokia phones many years ago but have been a dedicated SE user for the last 2 years. Lately I was wanting a new phone so I got the S700i which is an excellent camera/multimedia phone. If the S700i didn't exist, I would have surely gone for a K700i which is pretty much the same phone with a smaller camera and smaller screen size and expandable memory.

they r both really good fones, i've always liked nokias and someone on my college course got the 6230 and i decided i wanted one, i seen the K700i n didnt really impress me(by lookin at it) but it was only after fiddling with it i come to reallty like the design and the actual fone itself so i am glad with my choice.

i probly wud of got the D500 by samsung a friend has that and the fone itself is VERY good, the fotos and video are as clear as day and has some good features... i didnt like the size of it though, it was pretty bulky compared to other samsungs e800 all for the extra space and video support i didnt find it nessessary for it to be that big! they could have crammed it into the same size as the e800.

anyway! now i've chose my fone, and i'm guessing all the other K700i fans here are on Orange, whats it like as a network? i've personally tried to avoid it my sister had an orange fone years ago and it sucked. i was a vodafone fan but when o2 came out ive followed it from the start!

Oh man.. I LOVE Orange! It's just.. so easy. You don't have to worry about anything. All your costs just come from one uhhm.. package. I don't know how it's called in English.

And the best part is that, everything you have left at the end of the month, you get to take with you endlessly.

i think he means any inclusive minutes/texts he has remaining at the end of the month are carried onto the next month. Unfortunately we don't have such a system in the UK

and Orange are ripping us all off very very quietly in one way or another.

great choice of the K700i btw - had mine since August and I still love it now - I recommend getting a bluetooth adapter for your pc if you dont have one already - once thats done, get transferring those theme and tunes across - you'll soon see why its a better phone than the 6230! (my sister has the 6230 and since playing with mine, she wishes she'd got the K700i).

as mentioned previously, Orange arent very friendly to customers, and so they're not going to do us any favours. All the networks are like that in the UK - you either stick with what you've got or complain, complaining gets nowhere.

i ordered the fone over 48 hours ago, got an email saying my order is being processed. the email also said they will email me within 24 hours to confirm my order, which they didnt, 48 hours and no confirmation, i have emailed them asking if their is a problem just waiting for a reply.

anyone ordered off orange recently, do they just send the fone straight out? or tell u first!

Question for anyone who's used the K700i and the V3 Razr, how does the speed of the interface between those two phones compare? Maybe I'm just an impatient speed freak, but I find my V3 Razr to be too slow in navigating.

you will find that most motorola's are slow in navigation, i currently have a v300 (flashed to a v620) and it's pretty slow! even when i write a text once there is a few lines it begins to lag, same with the images and audio! try to upgrade ur fone www.howardforums.com to see if there are any fixes in the motorola forum.

update: orange finally contacted me requiring a £5 deposit, for some unknown reason. i gave them it and they said the fone will be dispatched within 24 hours. so i should recieve it tomorrow or friday! they are pretty slow compared to how fast they state on the site, from ordering they say you should have your fone within 2 days... not a week.

I only have one thing to say: s700i !

no one seems to have even touched on that fact you can encode videos and watch em on the 6230. i have whole seasons of simpsons and seinfeld (fine for watching on little screen) stored on my MMC. great for passing the time on the train.

Nokia owns SE imo...

maybe...but how many episodes can you put on it, while still having room for mp3's and photo's and videos taken in the past as well as room for more videos and photo's.

40 meg is useless in a phone that is capable of doing so much....but then you are probably on a PII with a 6GB hard drive...

forcer: seems Orange's cracks are showing to you already. If they don't deliver soon you should probably tell them where to stick it and go with another network - I'm sick to death of them messing each and every one of their customers around in one way or another.

For example: 'We'll give you 30 free photo messages for a month, however, we won't tell you that every single photo you take with your K700i is larger than usual and therefore we'll charge you twice as much for sending the photos, and then you'll have a large shock on your bill at the end of the month'

and on the note of Motorola - my gf has a V80 from O2 - and the other day the screen went completely white, and won't go back, no matter what she does to it.
Now she's faced with either an £80 bill for getting it fixed thru Motorola or a £18 'handling fee' if she choses to send it off to them and not have it repaired if the 80 is too steep for her.

MMS is limited to 100Kb, so anymore than that, and well it's just plain ignorance in my view. They have to put a limit on it, or the possibilities would be endless. Not sure about that specific phone, but on my P900 it asks me if I want to resize the VGA image, before attaching to MMS...

Yeah, I love watching videos on 128x128 pixel screens too.

They need to publish that information when putting people on 'free' trials - not everyone is an uber phone geek and knows how big standard MMS is.

they requested a 5 pound deposit 2 days ago which i gave them! the money still not come out my bank she said 24 hours its almost been 48... i foned to see if their was a problem, as they're usually is with me(am unlucky) she replied it takes 48 hours... so one of their representitives didnt have a clue wot she was talking about!

the post about watching full video's on the phone is a pointless pro to a phone, coz about 0.1% of ppl who own fones will actually use them for that!

Ok dude - now its getting to the point where I would have called them up, told them to cancel the lot and gone with O2.
At least on O2 you dont have the horrid customised firmware that Orange has put on.

Sure, I somewhat agree with that - though i have to question that if they can't find that out, will they even know what 'Kb' means?

I'd like to think modern phones prompt the user to resize the content of an MMS message like mine does. This would be the best way to make things 'user friendly' and not leave some aspects of the 21st cell phone technology to tech savvy people...
