The V10, 500 bhp 190 mph performance car has been liveried in the colours of the state police and includes a siren and flashing lights on the roof. This is the first time that a Lamborghini will be used by Italian police.
The Gallardo police car will be used by the traffic police (Polizia Stradale) during emergency situations on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway in southern Italy. It is equipped with apparatus to transmit and receive information and images in critical situations such as road traffic accidents, fires and other disaster situations. It will also be fitted with the Italian police’s Provida system which records traffic violations and sends images in real-time, and has a direct connection to the police database as well as the Elsag ‘Autodetector’ system for number plate recognition.

Man, have always loved Lamborghinis. I'd be such a badass cop if I had that thing...go out and try to start chases, lol.
Anybody seen the episode to Rides where they were in the Lamborghini plant watching one of these come to life? very cool.
I just noticed the postd 0-60 time. The normal Gallardo's rated at 3.9 seconds...maybe it's from all the extra equipment?
Fisrt off, why does Italy need a Lambo? They have that many open roads, and people have cars that could outrun a normal cop car?
Second, what's that red paddle thing inside the passangers door. Looks like a stop sgin thing.

There are quite a few open roads, yes. There's also quite a few fast cars (ferraris, porshe, bmw, lamborghinis, etc.) So having any advantage is good. This is also a fairly small car with quick acceleration, which is what is needed for the cities.

That looks SMOOTH! The colour scheme looks so good on the car
I remember reading about this a little while back - I'm curious as to how they made all of the standard police equipment fit - it's not exactly spacious.
Update: Clicked on the link and saw the interior pictures. Impressive. I guess I'm accustomed to American cops carrying shotguns in their cars, as not the whole world does it.

I love Lambos. Lamborghini is definitely my favorite car brand. If I lived in Italy I'd become a cop just to drive one of these things.

But yeah, what's that stop sign paddle on the passenger door? It looks like a spanking paddle or something. Spanking isn't a form a punishment in Italy is it?

Hah..those wacky Italians. Seriously, though, I think it's probably used for stopping pedestrians and/or traffic manually.
That color scheme is killer. But I still prefer yellow.

seems excessive to me, but then again, ive always hated lambos.
besides, at the speeds you would need that thing for, you really should just let the guy go. hes going to wreck himself.

Oh yeah, I read about this a while ago....it was cool. And how they had to have a chase car behind them for when they pulled someone over, since they couldn't carry "the perp"..LOL
i maybe wrong, but
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooold.

Feb 11 2005, 17:58
So what do they do when they catch someone? there's nowhere to put them.

Edit : just noticed chorpeac's post
Id like to have one of these in my garage, so I could drive it around my city and attempt to dodge all the potholes! Including all those toys on the dashboard. So how do I go about this, do I send an order to my South American friends, and tell them I need one of these boosted, then wait for a response including a fee which I can't afford
still cant catch me when im running away.
mannn! i want to be italian policeman

this is like year old news, that car was design (and donated) by the Lamb. Manufacturing Plant to transport organs from and into Hospitals so the organs can get faster to the destinations... Notice the small hand-cooler on front trunk. Correct me if I am wrong, but that was portraited last summer (July 2004)on Discover CHannel on a special about Hi-Tech police cars.....

227.5 in an srt/10? On a highway or track?
I managed to comfortably break 160 in our Gallardo for a sustained distance of at least 10 miles. The steering feels "off", thus the experience wasn't as pleasurable as it should have been. Still, achieving 200 is no small feat.
Incidentally, our client who has the mighty F50 (pictures available upon request) also owns an '02 Viper GTS/R which he ultimately prefers to drive. Having been a Ferrari owner for 20+ years, not to mention the fact that his company has a lucrative deal with Pininfarina, the Viper basically shook up his world.
I always thought it felt too torque-y, but that's just me. Oversteer was quite prevalent during certain maneuvers. Frankly, I'd be afraid to push her near the 200 range. The F50, however, is a claustrophobic deathtrap. Wonderful to brag about having driven it, but I wouldn't really do it again.

They have a Diablo police car too. Looks nice
Imagine explaining to the police force why you crashed the lambo chasing a dud vehicle. ack
