guys, i want to know which laptop would be a perfect fit for my college. I will do Computer Science as my major. I need some ideas on which model would be good for me from DELL.

but thats for small business right, will they give to a "home user" like me. OR it doesn't matter.
doesnt matter, they tend to label the Centrino as business market because of its wireless capabilities and long battery life / mobility. If youre not gonna use it as a gaming machine it will be just fine, should last you all through college.

The Inspiron 6000 is avaible to anyone.
You can find it also in the Home/Home Office section.
I have a 600m. I love it. I will say this: get enough power in your machine, you'll probably need it if you don't have a desktop to compensate.
Any particular reason you are limiting yourself only to dell? You can always consider something from HP/Compaq (wow did that just come out of my mouth, eeewww), Toshiba, Sony? Or some sort of apple solution?
Good point, depending on your budget, you can get something cool from Alienware, VoodooPC, or FalconNW.

this is my guess, but its better to get the business models from dell. They usually test new systems on the "home" customers and when it does well, then they sell it to "business" customers.

I think thats stupit bc home user noobs that buy dells look at HD spce and buy the biggest one, buissness buy the best proc.
I want to get a Dell 6000 but would be better the 60GB at 7,200rpm or the 80GB 5,400rpm (there aint a 7,200).
Make sure and buy it from the "education" section of Dell.

Laptops HDD are usually 4200RPM (sometimes slower) and the harddrive is the slowest thing in a computer. If you have the ability to get a faster RPM laptop HDD. DO IT!.
At least 5400RPM.
The 7200RPM laptop drive that dell offers ALSO HAS 8MB CACHE.
he stated that it is 5400rpm
the college i am going to needs to have a laptop. so, i waiting for their basic requirements. i will get these requirements soon.
You might want to wait for second generation of Inspiron 6000 or the up coming Inspiron 9300.
If you really need a laptop like right away, I recommend Dell's Inspiron 8600 not 8600c or 9300, You can also wait for Inspiron XPS 2 to be released this March...that is if Dell wont move the ship date again.

You have to be careful with these codes because depending on how high you go you will find that the 34% off will eventually give you more savings than $600.00 off the 6000.

Yes the "higher education" section is where I went. You may also call up Higher Education Sales Dept.
Signing up for a 3 or 4 year service contract will yield you an additional 12% discount. 1 or 2 years will yield you an additional 6% discount.

ok, Guys i got my basic specification for my laptop. They are:
Pentium M 2.0 GHZ or greater
512 mb ram
128mb graphic card

I would say the Dell 6000 if you wanted something a little bigger and powerful, if you are going for maximum battery life and light weight I would get the 700M.
i do need it powerful and i don't care that much about the battery life but i want light weight.

Well seeing as how both the Dell 6000 and 700M are based of the centrino chipset it's really up to wether you want a big screen (6000) or a smaller screen + lighter weight (700M).
