Full Version: Hand held gaming device?

I presently have a Sony Ericsson P900 phone, but it's rather bulky so I'm thinking of getting rid of it and buying a smaller one that will fit in my pocket all the time, rather than the P900 which I attach to my belt when I go out.

One thing I'd miss is the games, so I'd consider a device for gaming that I could take with me just as and when I feel I may want some game time, which isn't that often. I'm not that bothered about price (within reason!) but I don't want to pay a load for games. I'm also not interested in action games or stuff like that - I play Majhogg on my phone and that's the sort of thing I'd be playing - card games, board games, puzzle games etc. I may use it while waiting for a bus, I don't want to miss a bus because I'm trying to beat the end boss! AAG requiring these sorts of games pretty much rules out the Gameboy, DS or PSP. What else is there?

Downloading games from the internet and transferring to the device would be very handy, either by wire or bluetooth, as long as there's a decent community of free/cheap games out there for it. One thing that would be nice but is unlikely to be possible is for me to be able to write my own games for it - I can do this for my P900 and it's a nice feature!

If I can kill 2 birds with one stone I would consider it. Are there any phones that I can get a good selection of games for but which is smaller (Motorola V3 size or smaller)?

How programmable are iPaqs or Tungsten? Is there any other PDAs I should consider?

Have you tried an N-Gage QD? I've got one and they're awesome for gaming.

I considered that but I don't think the games are suitable for me - I'm more interested in card games than Ghost Recon, although perhaps there are more suitable games for it around - Pathway to Glory looks neat for one. A PDA looks like the way to go ATM but I'm still unconvinced. I think I need to work out what devices do what as I'm behind the times rather. This is going way beyond a gaming device, I gotta think about this.

EDIT: As my requirements are beyond the scope of this thread, I've created a new one here which covers the real topic better. Please use that thread.
