Hey all,
I just recently got a Mac and began using usenet just as I did with my PC. I downloaded a few files and noticed they are in .bin format, no biggie, so I click each one with stuffit and the end up becoming .2, .3, .4, etc. files after that i have no idea what to do i tried stuffit and nothing happened
On another download I had another that came with .2, .3 files and a mountable image file(dmg), when i clicked it it said no mountable file systems.
Any suggestions, if this were pc, winrar would have been easy, but i don't know of any winrar type programs except for unrar, which doesn't handle anywhere near as many file types as winrar did...
Please help!!

Make sure you have a current version of Stuffit Expander. If you have downloaded all of the parts of the file (.1, .2, etc.), then you simply open the .1 file with Stuffit Expander. Just as with WinRar, you must have all of the parts or they won't join correctly.
It sounds as if your newsreader isn't properly decoding the files (which is why you are ending up with .bin files). Which newsreader are you using?
Stuffit Expander is basically the Mac world's equivalent of WinRar (in fact, it will extract Rar files, and many other types).

I don't think Stuffit Expander is able to extract .rar files.
UnRarX is what I use.

Stuffit Expander has been able to hand RAR files for quite some time, at least since version 7.03. It's currently on version 9.01.
