WHEW!

I think I nearly had a heart attack.

My wife spilled a whole glass of orange juice into the front of her G5 1.6. Knocked it into the thing with the back of her (admittedly high backed) chair

I swear, I nearly died. Fortunately for her, I was in the room. Yanked the power cord IMMEDIATLEY so that it wouldn't short out and fry something. Laid the G5 on a towel on it's front edge to drain the fluids out of it (again, luckily, none got to the PSU). After letting it sit for a minute or three, opened the side and removed the deflector and fans to assess any damage.
Once again, lucky for her, the fluid only came within a centimeter of her logic board. Went in with my iKlear pads (thank you, Meriddrew Enterprises!) and proceeded to clean up the mess. A fan helped to complete the drying process. My wife (and the G5) are EXTREMELY LUCKY.

So, a word of caution to anyone that doesn't know this already:

If you are going to have drinks in you computer lab, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY, KEEP THEM AWAY FROM YOUR CPU. Get a big desk and set them on the opposite end of the thing. Also, be AWARE of your surroundings. Accidents happen, but you don't want them to cost you three grand.

This is why I always keep my PC (yeah, sorry:) ) on another stand, level with the desk. There's no way in hell if I spill a drink it could reach the PSU or any hardware...because, ya know, gravity.

Anyway, good work on acting quickly.

Yeah. I keep my comp on a separate table from the rest of my desk for just this reason. And man, did i chew her out something RAW for that. If it was some s***ty $399 Dell, I wouldn't care at all, but we could never afford to replace this. Fortunately, this will teach her to be MUCH more cautious about this sort of thing in the future. (At least I HOPE.....)

You may think so, but I bet if you were actually in the situation and it was your computer or your SO's, you would react without even thinking. I know I did.

On a side note, I had a 17" B&W Studio display as the second monitor on her computer, but yesterday it made a very VERY loud snapping noise and some smoke curled out of the top. Sad..particularly cause the monitor was free.

Yeah Mac should add that option when you buy it! How would you like your brand new Mac G5 to smell out the box? New Plastic? Or just liek a fresh orange juice spilled from the heavens above to come and bless your Mac..
