For my birthday last month I got my brother's old iBook G3 laptop with 640 MB RAM and an AirPort card. Apple definately makes the best laptops and I never even thought of getting anything else smile.gif
It came just in time too as my PC motherboard is dying and needed to be sent back with an RMA (good old EPoX 2 yr warrenty). Otherwise I'd be without Neowin right now. I also got my hands on his old digital camera, which paired with iPhoto is WONDERFUL for my needs. I know I'm running on dated hardware, but I have no need for anything else and will take what I can get my hands on and make the best out of it. I'm very happy to be joining you all here in the mac world.

So I've brought over my basic instincts for modding from the and decked it out complete with theming, icons, and a backlight mod (thanks to this magically resurecting Neowin thread).

[edit]Holy crap. I just noticed that I busted 1,000 posts a little while ago smile.gif I guess I might as well turn this into a milestone thread as well, since it's not in my style at all to start new threads, especially ones about myself. Thank you Neowin for my computer addiction!

awesome!

yeah, i thought that myself about apple's notebooks. i love it. i had the urge to buy a pc notebook one time, but then i thought, since im going into graphic designs, i should try using a mac since thats what we use at school.

anyway, i love the ibook as well, and i dont think i'll ever go to a pc notebook. ill stick to my desktop as my pc system, and keep continiung to use mac notebooks.

out of curiousity, how fast is your ibook?

It's not very fast. An 800 MHz CPU and 32 Meg ATi video card. I'll notice some lag browsing with Camino but Safari works wonderfully. Photoshop runs, I just have to take it easy and be a little more patient than I did on my desktop is all. The only time it really slowed down for me in general was when I was importing CDs in iTunes, but the extra RAM takes care of most everything else.

If you like Camino, you might try an optimized build from here: http://camino.ilnm.com/
It makes a huge difference on my G4.
