Hi there,

I am looking at upgrading a windows NT server for a Windows 2003 one. I just wondered if there was any way of transferring user, file and printer settings from one server to another, or have I got to re-enter all of the settings manually?

Thanks

Check out FSMT on the microsoft Website. That tool will transfer all your users, computers account and email if you have exchange. The tool was really designed for SMB but it works with regular windows

How many users do you have?

you might be better off creating a new domain.

Have fun!!!

If you are also moving files and folders and want to keep the NTFS properties, then use Robocopy. It has the option.

Updating from W2K to W2K3 isn't that bad as they are very similar. WNT to W2K was a huge step (like W3.x to W9x). I would go for a completely new Domain. Build the server out of the current domain, set up the users (you can use scripts to create items in the AD, so a spreadsheet of users, folders etc can easily be converted into text and the to a script). You realy want to get the AD done right. Nothing gets it as right as doing it from scratch.
username();
