Full Version: Prob with disabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP for VPNs

Hello,

Before I applied SP1 on my Windows Server 2003 system I had disabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP for my client VPN connections and used an LMHOSTS file. Everything worked smoothly. After applying SP1 though, I can no longer access any of the remote computers using their names (as defined in the LMHOSTS file) or even their IP numbers.

However, when I enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP (and disabling LMHOSTS lookup), I can access the remote PCs using their names, but browsing folders becomes painfully slow.

Does anyone know what needs to be done in order to access remote computers using just their IP numbers (with NetBIOS over TCP/IP disabled)? I am sure once this is solved, LMHOSTS lookup should work. I am not much of an expert in these areas and would appreciate any help.

Thank you,
Paul

Re-run the Connection Manager Wizzard and distribute that ouput to your remote clients.
