Howdy, well ive been a happy iPod user for the last 2 weeks or so, its a 20 GB model, I went to go give it the latest firmware upgrade, becuase it would not stop nagging me about it, but then it failed after about 25% through, The iPod will not play, iTunes will not reconize it, and i can not role it back to the original firmware becuase it says my HD is corrupt, however when i plug it in to my computer, Windows reconizes it as it goes in to HD Mode, has anyone else experenced this problem? and hopefully have any suggestions on what i can to to fix my Precious iPod? Any help would be most GREATLY apprecated, Tks

Get a new one biggrin.gif

If it's a brand new iPod then you can send it to Apple for free and they will send you a refurbished one.

this may be a stupid question, but, have you tried reinstalling the latest firmware, again?

Mine did something like that. The device would work but iTunes wouldn't see it. Could see it in my computer though. Just reinstalled the firmware and it was fine.

Format it again?
cswadner
agreed. Just run the iPod software updater again and hit restore... if still unsuccessful, format using windows disk management, if still having problems, try a different USB/FW port, and even attempt on another computer

Alright, so i reformated it, that did not work, another port did not work, the format did the format, but now the the IPod updater is still givving me the same error, it says "Disk Read/Write" error. and a folder with an explaation point keeps comming up... Ive trid Apples support site, and nothing is there, i try looking for a support e-mail address, but cant find that either, i dono pehaps im just stupid or something, but i just cant find one, i dont really wanna send it to apple, simply becuase im in Japan, and it would take FOREVER to get it there and back, let alone the chance of it droping in the the Pacific *Tear* does anyone have any other ideas on how i can resolve this problem???

Ok now we'll get deeper into TS. First USB or FW? If USB, are you absolutely positive that it is USB 2.0? 1.1 works for some but not all, and iPods tend to be very picky. Check device manager under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" for the words "high speed, enhanced, or 2.0" If you dont see them, then no USB 2.0.

Did you attempt on another computer?

Also, apple does not have any support e-mail. It is either website or phone.

go into diagnostic mode and run an hdd scan, if it says end scan ### something scan ng it's busted, and get it replaced.

if it passes, uninstall itunes and the updater and delete the folders from program files, then reinstall the updater only and run it, then plug in ipod, and restore, if same thing happens, try a different pc.
