Here's my mod of Schmoove's "SmoothGnome" vs, with permission from himself for me to edit it and mod it to look like ubuntu linux, with a few tweaks here and there.

EDIT (29/4): try the style here

I agree.
Dazzla
Just to be more specific, here's a few things I think have changed for the worse:

Tabs, the prominent inactive tab in particular, it doesn't blend into the tab pane at all
The All Programs section on the start menu looks misplaced, as well as the bottom pane looking bolted on
The start button having a button style border to it by default looks odd
The blue taskbar button is a different shape to the regular buttons

Take all that with a pinch of salt, it's just my opinion, but Smooth Gnome as done by Schmoove was pretty much a perfect theme, I can't see what could be improved, but looking at the screenshots I can see it going in the other direction.

You've got very good eyes Dazzla. I did not see any differences at all...
Alan Zeino
Yep, I havnt skinned the taskbar yet, havnt really worked on the start menu, just the window at the moment. Anything else you want changed?

Huh? More like Ubuntu Linux?
First, Ubuntu doesn't use SmoothGnome, it used a modification of Ximian Industrial (called Human) in the past. Now it uses a modification of ClearLooks.

Second, my port was a 1:1 copy (as close as it gets, well apart from the windowborder, because I thought the original sucked) of the original SmoothGnome which I made using Ubuntu Linux in VMware to take screenshots that way.
So how can you say that your mod is gonna make it look more like Ubuntu confused.gif

Anyways, good luck with it, hope you make something nice of it.
Though I honestly think the things you did with it made it uglier then it was.... sorry.
Alan Zeino
Yeah, this is all I did in an hour, heres the new taskbar im trying out:

Or this taskbar:

And yeah, about the ubuntu thing, since ive found that theres already an ubuntu theme, I want to make it look different, I dont want it to be a copy of everything else thats out there.

soory but beta 4 looks worse then beta 1
Alan Zeino
Yeah thanks, but your comment wasnt exactly constructive, how about telling me what it is that you dont like, rather than opening your fat trap just to make a point. Anyway, heres todays update : http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/18414050/

1) i dont like this new style on close/max/min buttons over windows
2) i dont like 48px size of icons @ start menu (32px is the standart that should be used, u can make some substyle with 48px icons as the addition)
3) i dont like coloured taskbar, the way that active application looks mostly

u made this beautifull linux port looking like windowns, thanks alot, but i dont need linux port looking like windows
pixel-work is cool, professional, but it just dont satisfies my taste
ps: its only my opinion, sorry. peace.

New beta (0.6) at DeviantArt. This is looking quite good, though I liked version 0.5's button better. But that's my opinion, now isn't it.
Alan Zeino
heres version 0.7 but its not up on devart yet, theyre down for maintenance.

He doesn't need to, schmoove released in under the GPL
Alan Zeino
Yep, and ive contacted b0se because of the close.min.max buttons but I dont think he made those since I got them from a linux screenshot... Schmoove will get his credit but its still beta... Version 0.9 is up http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/18981541/ One more update to go...
frogger
I'm not sure if its a bug, but the systray looks like $hit. Other than that i love it. i will keep you updated on bugs etc.

Edit: bug.... if anybody has the google toolbar, it will not display when you open internet explorer unitll you untick it and tick it again. another thing, the google search bar, the adress bar in IE, and most all buttons need work to make them look smoother. after all, this is smooth.gnome right?
Alan Zeino
Guys im halting the progress until I get word from b0se, hes not happy with my caption buttons, I do admit they look exactly like his, but I made theme from a screenshot of ubuntu linux that I liked, turns out that screenshot what a port of opusos running on linux... But if not ill make some new buttons for the theme tonight! smile.gif

I'm not happy with those buttons either. The theme looks too much like OpusOS now. I hope b0se says no. laugh.gif
Alan Zeino
He did. Anyways, its better off with the new buttons I made

I've been argueing with Alan Zeino, who has ripped Opus OS for his own 'theme', which kinda put me off skinning also. I might even post the PM's because it has annoyed me that much.
