Got to play with one tonight and its great fun. Lots of grip, lots of power and non UK plates ... Police looked puzzeled to hell at me

3.5l V6 Skline 350GT. 2004 which has been shipped into the EU from Japan. Still has the Jap satnav disk in. Its been brought over by the company that my dad works for and fitted some gismos to test that should feature in the 2006 models.
Though not allowed to say what they are.
Here some piccys though.

Only able to play with it tonight and its fantastic fun, its going to the EU for more testing next week but should be back soon for me to play with again
Side Note ~ the black boxes are what you are not allowed to see !

It's been in the states for quite some time now (it's completely different from a Skyline GT-R).

They sell that as the G35 here in the states. I'd put my money down on a 2005 GTO though. Faster, has a lot more power and has a nicer interior

It's already here as the Infinity G35 as has been previously mentioned in this thread. Personally, I do like it, but have to admit the style and design of the GT-R34 and the previous versions (R32 & R33) are sorely missed. I think a lot of what sets apart a Skyline has been lost in the redesign. I'd still buy one if my budget would allow, but would make it into more of a racing inspired/style vehicle.
If some folks aren't aware, but there is no Lexus in Japan. They are all Toyotas. The same thing applies to Infiniti which are all Nissans in Japan and other parts of the world.I get such a laugh because I work in the insurance industry (auto adjuster). People 's perception of a vehicle can greatly differ just because of the brand name attached to it. To me, I really like and would love to have a Lexus IS300, but have a problem paying $15000 for one that has over a hundred thousand miles on it. Retail price for a new one is currently beyond my means.
*If you are wondering, I own a 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege. Also, no biases here because I'm half-Japanese and have lived there. I left Japan after living there for ten years right when the GT-R line was being resurrected in the form of the GT-R32 in 1990. Also, there are other versions of the Skyline besides the GT-R which is the top model.
Excuse me for a getting a bit off-topic!

Actually the G35 ISNT a skyline. its the same basic chassie but so many things are different. the reason they dont sell R32s and R33s is because it doesnt pass so many standards in the US. I guess it would cost too much to make it street worthy here. or something. but from my research the G35 is not a skyline. just looks like it.

Apr 30 2005, 02:37
ok....
Skyline 350GT = Infiniti G35
And yes, it is the exact same thing. They just use RHD over there and they have more options/accessories. Same chassis, body, VQ35DE engine, etc. etc.
And Skyline doesn't always mean GT-R. GT-R is the highest Skyline trim level with the most power. There is also a 2-wheel drive R32/33/34, a non turbo, single turbo - as in GT, GTST, GTT...and some other trim levels I don't remember.
Just because it isn't a GTR doesn't mean it's not a Skyline.
Nissan will sell GTR's in the US when it comes out in 2007. It will come out as a Nissan and not a Infiniti, or so I've heard. There isn't much info out there about this car yet. I think it'll be shown at the Tokyo Auto Salon next year

Apr 30 2005, 02:54
So your testing out some stuff that will be likely included in the GTR???

Hmmm... is that an A-pillar boost guage?
Would be nice if they would come up with a TT AWD ~ 380-400 hp/tq with a 6spd manual. That would be an amazing car. Especially if they could make it under 35K. Though that probably wouldn't happen.
How about an underhood pic?
xxkrnxstylezxx
Apr 30 2005, 02:59
I don't see a boost gauge....
Greddty TT kit would get it up to 400HP at the crank for around $6000-$7000 + install. You could do a custom turbo kit for around the same as the turbo/supercharger kits for the VQ that would make 400+ WHP though

True. Gotta pay to play. But, you can get the Vortec Super Charger for around the same price. A little less power and needs a new hood (I don't really like), but they give you a 2 year warranty I think

nissan 350z and roadster:

if they brand a 2007 skyline as nissan.. what would happen to the 350z? im for sure they will have the same platform... g35, 350z, share the same paltform.

I don't think the GT-R is sharing the same platform, not sure. Either way, it'll be around $70,000, more than 2x the price of a Z or G.

rememeber the nissan skyline gt-r concept in 2000? ya turned out to be the rebranded (in NA) inifinti g35. so im assuming... if the platform changes for the skyline, it will aswell for the 350 and the g35. if anything the gt-r will have over the g and the z an engine upgrade, suspension and tire upgrade. but the chassis will be the same. and thats all.

There aren't many cars in this price range that handle and have the power of these.

Miatas are unless they're around cones.

(Or its been souped up) I've seen some single turbo setups that were pretty wicked for that little car.
The new Eclipses are pretty messed up compared to the DSM ones, imo.
I guess mainly because there is no turbo option.

Well the models aren't exactly the same. Some are very close but you get luxuary features in the more expensive name. And there are platforms on one that aren't on the other. Sure the camry shares a structure with a Lexus but there are differences in the build. They have done this, imo, to create brand recognition.
But hey apparently the 'rest of the world' knows exactly what they are doing.

uhh what are you talking about.... most of the world dont use the luxury spinoffs like northamerica does ie infiniti, acura, lexus.
for example... acura tsx.. I know the G35 is not exactly the same as a 350Z. Same platform, engine, transmisison, so on. The differences are the available options and the interior. They are pretty much different cars that are mechanically the same. I don't know about the non-NA ones though. Is there a 2 seater skyline? The 350Z is a two seater.
These spinnoff names are given to the more luxuary featured cars. True some are almost exactly the same but not all. I don't know what the original idea was but I think it is a marketing thing. They have given these cars different names and provided some extra features, cushier interior and so on and used the name recognition to distinguish from their counterpart. Plus imo it is nice in the case of the z/g to have the same great platform with two choices in style.
Also often you will get better service at the dealership of an Acura, Infiniti, lexus than of a Honda, Nissan, Toyota.

OK I gotcha. I had known about this kind of thing from the NSX. Here it's Acura NSX and over seas it's Honda NSX. I misunderstood and thought they were saying our Toyota and Lexus were exactly the same.
So in one case they have a Toyota ES300 instead of Camry? Or do they have both with the 300 being more luxurious?
