I received this iPod through a friend, but whenever I connect the iPod to the computer, it doesn't read it as a hard drive or as an iPod. It comes up with the 'Safely remove hardware' icon, but nothing else when I go into my computer. Often times, it'll freeze on the do not disconnect screen and I have to soft reset it. I am then able to play certain songs, parts of other songs, and it won't play some songs at all. Sort of like having a corrupt music file.

I also see the iPod error with the folder and exclamation point. All I need to do is reformat it and I believe it'll work, but the problem is that the computer can't read the iPod to where I can reformat it. I have tried using iPod manager and iPod updater, but both fail to recognize my iPod as well.

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried a different PC, or is it not recognized on any computer??

yeah you're right, you just need to update the firmware for it. Did you make sure the ipod is in Disk Mode ?
