After selling my Corrado a month or so ago, I decided I wanted to get something a bit more modern, reliable and economical! I wanted to stay within the VW / Audi range but Audi's are a bit too expensive still so got myself a Golf TDI.

I did something a bit spur of the moment and bought it on eBay without even going to pre-view it - but went to go see it after winning the auction and was very pleased. Car has high mileage (106,000 miles!) but its been very well looked after.. looks and drives like a car that has done half that easily.

Can't get over how punchy and eager that 1.9 TDI engine is! I'm amazed with it. Standard stereo is awesome, interior is comfy and roomy.. in short, very happy smile.gif

Will try get some pics eventually! biggrin.gif

They are refined cars, very quiet and economical. I bet it's a bit sluggish compared to your old G60 though!

Was your corrado the VR6 Bad Boy?
Quickstrike
OMFG You used to have a Corrado?! How was it? Was it the VR6?

That is my dream car right now.
I have always wanted one for the longest time now!

I have enough money to buy one, but I think the insurance would kill me.

How is the golf in comparison?

Is the Corrado one of the best cars you have driven?

Its a GT TDI - so the 115BHP PD version which is reasonably spritely! smile.gif

Around town actually pickup is surprisingly good in comparison to the G60.. but the G60 did have nearly double the BHP and that showed. The GT TDI has a nice kick of torque around 1,800RPM but then it kinda runs out of steam after 3,500RPM whereas the Corrado just pulled like a maniac the whole way to the redline in every gear.. did 140MPH in it once (though that was on Bruntingthorpe airfield for a Performance VW Magazine feature before people get upset with me!)

stanneh - it was the 4 cylinder supercharged one, but was tuned to put out more power and torque than the V6 model biggrin.gif

Quickstrike - yeah, it was a pretty special car. Corrado's are. Bit like a tempramental lady but.. you learn to live with it wink.gif Pics for views wink.gif

Lovely car man

Do you know how destined the vr6 is for the hall of classic cars?
something i seen on top gear they said the car was pretty much a flop as it was too expensive for the car class it was entering but the car itself was an engineering work of art and the fact that not many peaple baught them has put it right up there with the best of the best.

haha it is funny, but they don't seem that rare where I live.

In-fact I have been seeing them multiple times in one day, and there are about a dozen listed in the car paper.

Really nice car though.. always been my fav.

Driving an 82 Scirocco right now.. pretty good, but lacks power (only the 8v) unsure.gif

LOL i just seen your post in the other new corrado topic "I'm a moderator for the UK's biggest Corrado Forum" i guess you know a lot better than I" tongue.gif respect man im still stuck with my beloved mk1 golf gti convertable but i love her biggrin.gif
Chicane-UK
No worries man! I'm not hot on actual hands on, technical repairs and stuff but I know more useless trivia about the Corrado than you can imagine wink.gif

Yeah the Corrado is quickly becoming a classic, and rightly so. Its been interesting to watch the value of the Corrado gradually climb in recent months, thanks in part to the favourable review on Top Gear. The Corrado has also come up in a LOT of motoring magazines in the last year or two as well, and the motoring journo's still absolutely rave about it. Mint low mileage VR6 Storm models can fetch around £8000.. which is not bad considering they are 10 years old now!

I've yet to own a VR6 - owned a late 2.0 16v, and then more recently the G60. I have driven a few VR's though and like every model for different reasons.. the 16v is economical, the G60 is a bit of a maniac (if tuned up!) and the VR6 is an effortless motorway muncher with an air induction note to die for! smile.gif

I have a '01 Jetta TDI & I love it. The gas mileage of the TDI's is unbeatable.

That looks like memorial park ... I remember playing football in there many sunday mornings while at uni.

Have you got any mods for it in the short term? I see you have already got a boot spoiler or did that come with the car?
[idkfa]
Sweet, my Golf has the same engine biggrin.gif
High mileage is no problem for diesels, and it's common that diesels do not accelerate that well in higher rpm's but will pull in the lower ranges.

Hehe.. its not the memorial park, but I do live close to the Memorial Park (well, 10 minutes drive) and do often go there to play football with friends smile.gif

Boot spoiler is an OEM fit part that came with the car.. i'm considering some nice alloy wheels and potentially some good suspension to lower it a bit, but that'd be about it.. not too bothered about modifying a diesel wink.gif

My dream is to have a Golf - After the Polo of course biggrin.gif

Congrats smile.gif Looks sweet.
