What do you guys think? its only my first draft and still needs alot of improvement.
Just dont expect it to ever be made cos i have no idea how to make IEview templates
russellc
May 5 2005, 01:04
that looks pretty cool. if you'd like i can put it on my list of ieview templates to do
that looks pretty good! except the fact that the avatar is taking over two lines, that won't work.
(on, and the drop shadows that are that big is kinda hard to code... I think.... that's what RUSSELL told me

)
I did something similar to this! I don't even remember what I named it! you can ask Karma Police to code it for you, if you want!
that looks nice....pitch your idea at some of these guys here on Neowin and I'm sure they will be more than willing to help...

i think you misunderstand. shadows in general arent hard to code. they're just more difficult to plan out on how to make them appear (its really just an annoyance, nothing more). and big shadows arent the issue, its shadows not on 90 degrees

..so any shadow not symmetrical is what i'm talking about

Thanks alot russel, dark kyuubi and hidea. I literally made this in under 5 minutes, incredibly simple. So shadows, avatar size/position etc can easily be changed.
Thanks alot Russel for offering to help make the template

but when ever your free, i remember reading somewhere else on the forum that ur busy with exams so take ur time.

well i just finished one of my exams (my advanced placement exam) which is earlier than all other exams. but i have 3 ISP's to do before the end of the year..in a month and a bit i'll be having my actual exams.
my priorities on doing these templates is keeping the ones that are quickest and easiest to do first (as i am tight on time, and will be for the next month and 2 weeks). i managed to squeeze in an update on pureplastics just this weekend. so, maybe the coming weekend (or whenever you finalize your mock) i can snip out some time from my hell-like schedule

that is actually a nice start. I would suggest making the dotted line divider into an "indented line" of sorts, you know what I mean?

Russel: Hehe i also got exams, start on monday

ill be busy for about 2 weeks after that i finish this year and im completely free to work on this

. I'll try and c if i can do anything b4 this weekend. By the way how many templates are on ur to do list?
Bangbang: Ye i think i know what u mean, ill give it a try. I also realized that the avatar overlapses the seperation lines (need to fix that)

i have 4 waiting to be done atm

i still need to update all my templates with some new code that fixes a certain bug with long names/messages distorting the template. so far i only have pureplastics and pigment updated with that code

2nd draft. Added a timestamp to each message. I like the way the dark gray goes with the lighter transparent background, but it mite get annoying seeing a large timestamp all the time, so im not sure. Fixed the seperation lines and tried making a file transfer message.
Dammm Man, if this actually gets released i'll be switching back to miranda again
fukachu
May 5 2005, 08:30
not that i use miranda.. but i think the file status one could do with a rounded bottom rather then the square. in the silver bit that is. it just looks a little odd cause it has nothing under it.

May 5 2005, 08:31
Rickie: Thanks alot

Fizical: Ye i just realized that aswell kinda missed that

easily fixed though

This looks hot for sure.
Looks nice

Very StefanKa-like
Calintz
May 5 2005, 11:49
ye, i used to use the transparent black for my miranda contact list, then i saw a toolbar thing that stefanka made and thought the silver would go really well with the transparent black
It looks nice, im switching to miranda if you release that

Everything is possible to do, it doesn't matter if the avatar uses 1,2 or n lines and it doesnt matter if the shadow is big or small.
The only problem you will have (thx to IE) is that any link inside any message sometimes wont work unless you find the correct size of the png or do some tricks to get it working. All is because of the filter you have to use to load the alpha channel.

Stupid ie huh

but nice template looks like stefenka's winamp skin.
Looks great, the only think that I fon't really like are those big timestamps, too big for me

Nice, this might become my default one if it gets released.

Thx everyone

B4boon: Maybe we could make different settings (just like other templates have different colour settings) so u can have it if u want, or not.
Karma Police: Excellent

(part from the ie links of course...)

Looking great!
2 suggestions:
-would it be possible to make the little white "frame" surrounding the black conversation box strand out a bit more? Maybe make it thicker... or whiter... Stefanka's spirit has that around the winamp window and it looks great, just as an example.
-do you guys think it would look better if the dotted white line was dark grey instead (the colour of the large timestamp)?
Also, I vote against the large timestamp, while we're on the topic

.
Love the concept, good job!
this looks great, now if it does become a reality i will be jealous .... i want it for adiumx ;(

Took into account some people's ideas
1) timestamp removed
2) White lines are now dark grey
3) rounded the bottom of the "file status" box
4) added a much stronger white line around the transparent black boxes
5) created a small "incoming" and "outgoing" symbols in the bottom right of each message box.
6) User status is now displayed.
karma_police
May 7 2005, 07:19
You cant display the status of the user like you want, or did I miss a new IEView release?
Calintz
May 7 2005, 07:22
o really? damn

. Cos ive seen on other templates it tells you when ppl go away, or come back after being awway etc. So assumed u could have a constant indicator
karma_police
May 7 2005, 07:23
No just status notification but you can put the protocol instead
Calintz
May 7 2005, 07:25
ok ye tahts fine. Just need to find something to replace the status on the corners of the boxes then.... any ideas?
Calintz
May 7 2005, 07:31
Example of template in use (photoshopped, not literally in use

).
PS: ignore my mispelling of bare.
awesome...can't wait for the release!
leetl90
May 7 2005, 15:33
maybe it'll be better if you replace the user status at the right hand corner with a timestamp

May 7 2005, 16:54

Calintz
May 7 2005, 17:52
Thx

, i cant wait to start working on this too, but i got an exam on monday. I'll see if i can do anything after monday b4 my next exam. If i have time i mite even be able to finalize it 2nite, but no promises. I also want to design custom icons for the toolbar on the message window.
Leetl90: ye it was originally a timestamp before i changed it to a status indicator, i'll probably switch back to a timestamp.

, at least make a version with them included

alex: ye ill c if i can.
How do u create those diagonal lines that alot of ppl seem to have in their sigs or avatars (an example is russellc's). Surely u dont actually make each individual line
karma_police
May 9 2005, 08:56
just create a pattern in photoshop, for example 4x4 pixels just like this one.
EDIT:
it's pretty small
Calintz
May 9 2005, 09:39
ye i was hoping it wasnt gonna be a copy and paste job. Was hopping there was some "stripe" effect option in photoshop or something. Thx tho, ill use ur way.

you create a new document, same dimensions as your desired pattern. then, create your pattern (in this case, a diagonal line), so use the pencil tool to just draw the number of pixels in a diagonal fashion. after you're done this (make sure it has a transparent background), go to Edit -> Define Pattern. Press OK (assign a name if needed).
after this, go to the image where you would like to apply the pattern (correct layer as well). select the paint bucket tool (right click on gradient tool) and for the Fill options (on the toolbar) select pattern. then choose the pattern you created. then just click on the image (to fill it with the pattern)
