On Neowin's main page, it ALWAYS says:

Welcome back nemo. You have (1) New Private Message. View Control Panel

However, when I click on the "New Private Message" to read it, there are no new messages in my PM inbox. When I do get a new PM in my box, it will say on the main page that I have (1+#NewPms) New Private Messages...

I never really noticed it but it's really freaking annoying

yeah, it still does it. It's been happening for quite a few months, it just didn't start to bother me until now.

You probably have one buried that you haven't read. Take a look. It's happened to a lot of people.

Hrm.. I checked through all my PMs and I didn't see any that were unread... But I guess it triggered something cause now the PM count is right... everything seems fine.

I've had this problem before.

It seems to be whenver you've read it on the message it'll give you at the top of the screen, but haven't read it at the PM inbox page.

Yeah, sometimes even if you've read one of them, it registers it as being unread. If you click all of them, it usually fixes the problem.

I believe one of the moderators said the reason for this was moved threads / deleted posts. Not sure but I have had this problem before but it has stopped now.

Nope. They were mistaken if thats what they said.

It really means you have 1 unread message.

Take a look in your inbox and any icon that is solid instead of greyed/transparent.

If you see a solid icon, then its unread.

You might have think you've read the PM, because you read it in that red box that comes up, but you if you didn't click one of the "Open this PM" links, then it was never marked as read.

The "moved thead" auto-PM used to cause problems. Redmak himself said it was a glitch. Whether it was resolved or not may be a different story.
