ok i have images( ISO's ) of centos 4, fedora core 3 here. and i want to install it on my home pc. (dual booting). for me the easiest way was extracting dosutils on fat32 partition plus keeping all the images on that partition.
then booting from dos/98 boot CD and browsing to dosutils dir in command prompt and typing autoboot.bat to install LINUX.

but where has this gone in centos 4 and fedora 3??? realmad.gif

Do you mean the "mtools" like mformat, mcopy and such? They are on my FC3 box.

Ohhh... That is what you are talking about! I haven't needed those since I booted from floppy on RH5.1!

I took a quick peek at the Fedora site, and the last I see of DOSUTILS is in the tree for FC1
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedo...core/1/i386/os/

Now, all that DOSUTILS does (for my understanding) is give a Microsoft user a way to create a Boot Floppy in a Microsoft-only environmnet.

That means that the DOSUTILS from FC1 should be valid for just about any version of RH/FC.

lol ... that makes u and me such a old linux users/noobers tongue.gif

ok i will see.

i use dosutils to install linux iso stored on fat32 partition .. ( this saves from burning them on disk).

Do *do* realize that if you store your iso images on your FAT partition, you can install Linux right from there, without committing them to CD, right?
kyro
yup right .
