Ive got a DB server machine running Win Server 2003 and SQL Server 2000.
I can access / use DB fine without the Windows firewall on, but i assume i want the firewall switched on for a server box?! When i turn it on i cant access / use DB anymore - i assume because i havent opened the right port.
Anyone know which port is required to be opened? I opened 1433 bcos internet searches showed SQL Server defaults to that. However i still couldnt access from my client machine.
Plz help!

Install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and then the Security Configuration Wizard. It will walk you through securing a server running SQL Server including configuring the Windows Firewall
Ok, didnt realise there was a service pack release for it...
Im gonna make such a good web server admin
Default port is 1433 and can be changed in sql server config

Yeah weird... i opened port 1433 manually but it still didnt give access.
All sorted now... that Security Configuration Wizard is brilliant, writes to XML file as well so u can edit it manually if u want! MS are starting to produce some good stuff!! (albeit just a security config wizard).
Thx for advice!
