Yes like all other people, I also got my first Mac Mini. w00t.gif
As soon as I opened the box... I was speechless. Its so fing small. Compared to my humangous full tower (which barely fits under my table) its looks 10x times better. Plus guess what guys. I also got the 20 incher Cinema Display to go with it. OMG its sooooooo sleek. Ofcourse I had to get the matching keyboard and mouse. First I was going to get the wireless but then I thought I wouldnt be using it wireless capabilities.

After firing this mini baby up I passed through the easy setup and Lo Behold I am using MAC OSx for the first time in my life. No restarting !!! finally. I can not believe its running on 256MB RAM and 32MB video card. Its flawless. So smooth. No glitchs nothing.

Now I have to install Tiger in it. I was so excited that I had to try it out. I have to get used to some things but I have learned a lot of things already.

Before any of you say that you could have bought any other lcd let me tell you guys why I got it.
I had a replacment plan for my older 17incher studio display. Ofcourse they didnt have them in stock (discontinued item wink.gif ) so they gave me a $700 Gift Card w00t.gif You know the rest tongue.gif
And the other reason I got this is beacause........ It looks so SLLEEEEEEEK.

Right now I have to figure out how to network my PC and MAC. I know how to do it but I need to figure out if I'm going to use router or just a crossover cable. Or I might as well make my internal HDD (Personal Stuff, Media, etc) external. It seems that I need to get a USB hub or something too many stuff with USB.

More pictures to come soon smile.gif
Freakz
from memory, it wont matter if you have a crossover or not, the mac will pick it up for you and just make it work..

im pretty sure this worked with my powerbook and a mates laptop

nice setup there mate
perochan
nice!
Im gonna get my 1st mac (powerbook) this summer. smile.gif
teeple
all I got to say is putting that monitor (whether 700 off or whatever) on a mini should be a crime (sniff sniff).

My Powermac DP 2.0 G5 tower is getting dual 19" flats from Dell (at 325.00 a pop)!

Beautiful monitor!

Congrats and welcome to the Mac World!

this is his paycheck --> user posted image

jk, i am guessing the monitor was more than the mini ? happy.gif

congratulations

that monitor is a savage
ProfessorX
Just installed Tiger. Took quite a while but its expected so no big deal.
It does get kinda slow here and there but I'm quite impress how MM handles itself. Still more RAM is needed. Ill try using the 512MB stick from my PC.

The retail for the monitor is $799
With the $700 gift card it cost me around $100

LOLz @ paycheck

no i had to sell my car to get that tongue.gif

for real I had some money saved for this. Plus I got it financed so that kinda lightens the load.

Excellent pickup, I am in dire need of a new lcd and you just made me more jealous. Congrats on the new system and get ready to enjoy a hassel free system. Welcome to the clan.

I have a similar setup (Mac mini + 20" ACD), its really cool.

I have to admit, having a setup with a monitor that cost twice as much as the computer (Before the price cuts) is interesting. tongue.gif

Enjoy your Mac. biggrin.gif

Thats a sexy set-up, I have been thinking about getting a mini for my parents. They won't know the difference between a PC and a Mac; they are basically computer challenged.
Huy
What's that box on the other side of the monitor?

You have the Mac Mini on the left, and something that looks like a smaller Mac Mini on the right. What is that? A hub? Apple product? It looks like a smaller Mac Mini. blush.gif
ProfessorX
^ thats the power adapter for the LCD.
Huy
Cool, thanks! I hadn't seen one of those before. Nice Mac (and LCD!) smile.gif
Yvo
So let me get this straight... you received a $700 gift card and then you spend $500 on a mac mini. About $1200... was that store selling imac g5s as well? Would've gotten a faster proc, more memory and just prettier unit with $1200.

Oh well.. enjoy your mac mini...

I was under the impression that PC RAM wouldn't work in the MM. Is this true or not? I don't own a Mac but I'm buying one soon, that's why I ask.

So I could replace the 256MB with a PC3200 512MB DDR?
XxiNickxX

Can't go wrong with a 1 gig stick of memory.
And at this price... yes.gif

I only have one question. If you were going to spend that much, why not get a 17" iMac instead? It would have been about the same price, but much higher performance.

Yeah Yvo pointed that out also

but maybe space was an issue? well... maybe not considering the monitor.

maybe he really wanted a huge monitor and the mac mini was in the price range

Actually I was only allowed to get a monitor with that gift card. I got a replacment plan for my old LCD so it only replaces the monitor with another one. The best one they had was the one I got.
Had I got the oppertunity to get something else ofcourse iMac would have been the best choice.

Sweet setup you got there wink.gif

rolleyes.gif Does an e-machines run Mac OS X? No it doesn't.

Oh and congrats on the mac mini and that nice display.
mercuryx013
Just bought a Mac Mini... my first Mac. Going to set it up tonight when I get time. I'll be upgrading the RAM next week. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Thanks for the help!
mercuryx013
Quick question for you guys... my mini came installed with Panther and a Tiger DVD. I have booted from the DVD, and I would like to do an Erase and Install. However, I don't have a disc labeled iLife 05. Where do I install iLife from?

Thanks.
ProfessorX
Congrats on your Mini. You wont regert buying it. Make sure that you upgrade the RAM to atleast 512MB. I did it and it runs much better than on 256MB.

The DVD only gives you an upgrade option. It will take ~45 mins to get Tiger installed.
mercuryx013
Actually, the DVD let me do a clean install. I then installed iLife from the original Panther Setup DVD.

The RAM is already on order. I'm upgrading to 256 for sure. The model I used in the store was the same as this with 512 and it was indeed much smooth.
