i can't take it anymore.. i've SIMPLY trying to make icons using Desktop X.. good god. fellas. i have the icons in ico format, and when i make a new object and use the icons for the object image its an unattractive black border (im guessing because its alpha blended) and get this fellas.. i actually did do a search for it in the forums.. and this is the best explanation i found.

http://www.neowin.net/bboard/showthread.ph...t=desktopx+icon

unfortunately, even being equipped with both gif movie gear and photopshop hasn't helped me.. i get stuck when instructed to extract a tiff from the ico using gif movie gear.. i've searched the help contents etc. for the option to no avail.....

if someone could maybe better explain the instruction in the afformentioned post.. that would be appreciated.. or even .. there wouldn't happen to be a group of OSX icons modified for use as a desktop x object. would there.. in particular the hard drive icon and or my computer..?..

just in case, i've searched www.wincustomized.com.

and as a a matter of fact im about to go to deviantart.. just to make sure..

i think thats all.....

DesktopX icons have to be .png image, just like the zoomers. .It's very simple to do.

Load your icon into GIF and delete all sizes except 128. Extract as a .psd. Open the ,psd in Photoshop. Now reduce the image to what ever size fits your fancy and add text if you want. Now save the icon image as a .png. Now create a new DesktopX object and select your new .png. And there is your icon. This should answer your question.

Concept. Email me at deadzombie@deadzombie.net - I'll give you all the know-how to make DesktopX objects, both static and dynamic, including how to load plug ins and everything else.

I've been working with DesktopX for almost 2 years, with the majority of my theme work focused on that app.

Uh oh....You need GIF Movie Gear *for Icons. If you can't get a hold of this verison then try Icon XP, It does the same thing. I've never used it myself, but Deadzombie raves about it.smile.gif

Before you put too much effort into converting all of your ico's to png's, the next version of DesktopX (1.2) will support alpha icons. I'm using it now in Win2k and it's pretty good. For some odd reason it complains about the header in the MMX icons, but other like dent, some glass bubbles, and other alpha blended ones work great.

im about to check for the update

i sure did buy this ****.

If you have Object Desktop, then it is available in component manager. If you just bought DX, then you will need to wait for 1.2 final I think. They are on 1.19b so it shouldn't be long biggrin.gif
