I drive an 03 Impala LS and I want to replace the factory CD player because I am putting a much better system in it. I was woundering if this was even possible because you control alot with the cd player such as ALL the cars settings (how long the lights stay on, stuff like that)and your alarm. I never mess with that kinda of stuff but what if I wanted to? Can I take it to chevy and they can change it with their computer they hook your car up too? Is there anything special I need to replace the cd player?

Thanks.

I've got an olds 02 with the same class radio as you.

It's a major bitch to get a new head unit in (if installing yourself)

I think the only thing the stock radio controls are the chimes when turning your car on and indicating by chime you have low gas, SES, etc... and alarms. Lights are not a factor.

When you take the radio out... you loose the chimes.

There is aftermarket adapter from Metra to get your chimes back, cost about 50 bucks. The adapter contains a speaker which will sound the chimes. If your used to the soft somewhat quiet chimes that come from your door speakers... it might be a little annoying to hear the really loud and harsh chime that comes from the adapter.

I'm not sure on the alarm thing... mine didn't come with one.

Take it to a place that specialzes in instaling car stereos and alarms, im sure they will be able to tell you what youll need. My car used to do the all the same jazz, but like what shockz said, when I installed the stereo all i lost weret the chimes...

not all that much of a bad thing when i really think about it. I could leave my door open and not hvae to hear thay annoying sound. lol
