Ok everyone, i've come down to 2 choices.. and i need help from people who hopefully have them to let me know how well they work with tiger. I saw on amazon that the microsoft one apparently is fully supported now with Tiger.

This was from an Amazon comment 12th May 2005 regarding the microsoft one

The left button is the standard click, the right button functions as ctrl+click, and the side buttons can be configured to work with Expose and Dashboard. The vertical scroll wheel works perfectly and when clicked-in in Safari opens links in a new Tab.

So help me decide between:

Microsoft® IntelliMouse® Explorer for Bluetooth™
OR

Logitech® MX™900 Bluetooth® Optical Mouse

The price difference here is like $6 so the cost isnt an issue. I really want to choice the best suited mouse. I guess i would like having all the features of a mouse like this over the standard apple mouse.

Hopefully some of you can give me a good indication of which one to spend my dosh on.

Thanks!

i prefer the mx900. although i do not have one myself, i do have an MX700 and it beats the hell out of my intellimouse explorer 4.0 and thats a wired mouse. The MX700 is just a faster mouse and feels more comfortable. I suspect that since the mouse is the same design, it would be just as comfortable, and since its bluetooth, it would even be more responsive than the MX700.

I would say the logitech MX 900 cause it has the hub. I had the Microsoft mouse and ITSSSSSS awesome but when the batteries are dying its a nightmare sad.gif but the mouse rocks if you have enough batteries.
Amnesia
laz has a good point.
I use a wireless sony mouse and i wish it was rechargable.
BAtteries are a main factor.

Thanks for the replies... batteries would also add to the ongoing costs. I guess the need for horizontal scrolling isnt big except for when using photoshop. batteries could be a hassle.

Here is my question.

If you are going to go for the Logitech MX 900 (which has a rechargeable base), why go bluetooth. I mean the reason you want to go bluetooth is so that you have one less base on your desk (and less wires) and take advantage of the build in bluetooth. However like previous posters have mentioned, you won't be able to recharge the device.

If you are planning to get the MX 900, I would get the MX 1000 instead. It is better at wireless and there are reported problems (google it, too lazy to look myself at the moment) with both mice. However the MX 1000 has a different type of optical interface that is much more sharper and also supports glass surfaces (I could be wrong on that one).

So again.. if your planning to go with the MX 900, I'd recommen d to get the MX1000 instead since the only advantage of the MX 900 is the rechargeable base and at that point you have a base so why not have a MX1000 instead. Plus a mouse is really a personal choice considering your hand size, how hold it, etc etc.

Yvo, you have a logitech mouse i noticed, but i couldnt tell if it was the 900 or the 700. i cant find the 700 at any of the online spots i normally look at for prices here in australia so if its logitech im going my choices are between the 900 and 1000. the 1000 does say it supports OS X and it does ahve the side scrolling. also its at the same price as the 900 here. unfortunately both are $125 where i looked at the price. even though the 1000 is cheaper in USD on their website.

I have a MX700 however that is going to get demoted to my Windows box and I will have a MX1000 for my Mac.

The problem with the MX700 that the MX1000 does not have (but the MX900 does as both MX700 & MX900 have almost identical sensors, just one comes with a BT module) is that on a high resolution of 1680 x 1050, the precision becomes less. The MX1000 does not suffer from this as it supports a higher resolution. My Windows system only has a resolution of 1280x1048, but my mac is 1680x1050.

I have Microsoft Bluetooth mouse - thumbs_up.gif feels comfortable in my hand and works for about a month on fresh batteries tongue.gif

Definitely go Logitech. MS mice's wheels are ridiculously annoying for games. They don't click as you scroll. For example, if you're using it to scroll through weapons in a first-person shooter game, then you might easily bypass the one you want. Trust me, go Logitech. If you don't game, it may not matter much, but the Logitech is still more comfortable anyway.

I've got the Microsoft one and it rocks, seriously. Plus the bluetooth dongle is better than the logitech one.

How does it rock more than the Logitech? Have you used the Logitech? They both "rock," but one probably rocks more than the other for specific reasons. I gave my reasons. What's the problem with the Logitech dongle? Do you not like the shape? Or does it actually not transmit as well as the MS one?

Also, the Logitech wheel altogther has a nice, sturdy feel, whereas the MS one is very loose and sloppy feeling. I have an IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0, and it has the same kind of scroll wheel. I am also talking about the side scrolling -- very sloppy feel. The Logitech has a nice, neat click.

Just heard people having issues with the Logitech dongle with other devices but the mouse, and the software is teh suck. I have a Logitech keyboard and I deleted the software after 2 minutes, piece of crap it was. I actually reviewed the Microsoft Mouse when I first joined these forums maybe you should search for it and take a look. I basically tried all the mice out at the store before I bought the Microsoft one and I bought it because of the scroll wheel. It reminded me of the first Intellipoint mouse I got when I used to play many RTS games and it just felt good in my hand too.

I have to admit I didn't like the MX900, more the MX1000 I nearly got that. Infact I would have bought the MX1000 if it have bluetooth and a smaller charger base.

I also think you should not compare the IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 to the Bluetooth version as they are completely different leagues when it comes to they way they perform and the quality of how they are made.

I'd also like to point out that I'm not a Microsoft (or Megashaft as I call them), they just made excellent input devices.

thanks everyone fort eh reply..

i've looked more seriously at the mx1000 now.. is there a benifit to bluetooth over RF? i've never really hear people complain about RF but is it that they need to be in site of the mouse? unlike bluetooth? is that a big difference?

I'm not worried about having the charger base sitting around as they all have them. if there issnt a significant advantage to bluetooth then i may get the mx1000. i do like the click in teh scroll wheel... a definite must for me. i didnt realise the microsoft one didnt do this.

It does have a click scroll wheel, you got confused I think.
fukachu
no i think you got confused with what is being talked about here.. having read the thread you would know what im talking about smile.gif

i mean when you rotate the scroll wheel it moves freely on the MS one, i tried it yesterday. whereas the logitec one clicks around the scroll. which is good for games because easy to change weapon.

what i'm wondering now is.. i'll be playing UT2k4 with this mouse and is the lack of scroll a problem... Can all buttons on the MS mouse be configured in OS X 10.4 because MS doesnt support it. the mx1000 has OS X support so i assume i can assign buttons to different tasks.

can some1 give me any indication of the MS one. I have rechargable batteries i could use... IF there is a big advantage to going bluetooth.

I prefer apple bluetooth mouse, but if I have to choose any one on the list, I prefer the logitech one, because I used both of those mouse, and the logitech one is more comfortable, but anyways, I think apple bt mouse is the way to go
nomis_nehc
why are people raving over bt?! long range i suppose, but it has a lag that's more noticeable than rf. plus you're not going to be using your mouse 30 ft away from your computer anyways. did i mention bt drains batteries' life quicker?

btw, i have mx700 and mx1000. loving them.

No, it doesn't. I'm using the RF version of that mouse right now. Unless they put the click in the bluetooth and not in the RF, which I surely doubt wink.gif
fukachu
thanks everyone.. im thinking i'll go the logitec mx1000 since i dont ened to be far away and RF seems to be good and it fully supports os x and also feels very comfortable.

thanks a lot for all your help.

Good choice!!

**Pats himself on the back for mentioning the MX1000 first**
