im using an ibook g4 and wanted to hook it up with my dell 2005fpw, so i go into displays in system preferences and have it detect displays. so now, i have two windows for my lcd and the 2005fpw, but the highest resolution its showing for the 2005fpw is 1024x768, not the 1600x1050 im looking for.
so uh, do i need to disable the ibooks lcd in order to get the 2005 working at its native res? if so, how do i do that?

thanks

the ibook can't go above 1024x768. and without a hack you can only do mirroring on an ibook.

well that kind of sucks
is the hack relatively easy/legal/etc to apply?

Yep, very easy. Its just a matter of running an apple script of typing some commands in openfirmware.

This site has both methods of doing it:

I did the openfirmware patch two years ago and its been working great ever since.

I use a small app called Screen Spanning Doctor which allows you to run dual screen, and various resolutions from the iBook's VGA port.

Get it here: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15401

Dougal.
