Well, I have come to the conclusion that the start menu in Win2K is too bland right now. Sure, I can modify the sidebar bitmap and generally configure the actual menu itself to behave however I want it to, but I want to move beyond that.
I know Windows allows background images and bitmaps for dialog boxes and menus, but I have no clue as to how I would modify the applicable file to be able to do so. Reshacking explorer.exe gives me control over the menu structure itself, editing the shellicons in the registry allows customization of the icons in the start menu, but I have yet to modify the start menu itself.
Anyone know where to start and what I would need to do to be able to display a background on the start menu?
Mind you, I am not too terribly interested in third party applications because not only do they waste resources, but I also prefer to just do it myself. If I wanted it to be easy, I would use XP.
