Recently i've found myself with plugged up ears, i wanted to know some of your ways to unplug them with the least amount of pain.

just open your jaw, chew gum or hold your nose close and blow gently ( to hard can rupture your ear drums )

A pencil. Use the pointy end. 'nuff said.

...it always used to baffle me that I was told in grade-school to not put anything smaller than my elbow in my ear. It always made me think the things doctors use in your ears should have a disc on them with a diameter greater than an elbow....

You might need your ears cleaned out, try your Doctor smile.gif

If your ears are plugged with wax, the best idea is to go to a drop-in medical clinic and have them flushed out. The doctor does it with a syringe and warm water. Only takes a few minutes.

Especially, when u go swimming its so easy to unplug your ear, wat u only have to do is only jump by lowerin down your ear on the side thas plugged, water will come out automatically. And u will feel the hot water comin out of the ear!

Ever since i got a cold, i have had alot of trouble unplugging them.
@everyone thanks, i will contact my doctor this week.

yeah if you go to the doctor they can unplug them with a high pressure water gun... kinda like what dentists use. i would not reccomend trying to do this yourself though as you can damage your ears. the doctor can also tell you why this might be happening.

omg sad.gif
Your fine now right?
edbro
It is because of the cold. Your ears are connected to your sinus system. This is why you should fly when you have a cold. You can not clear your ears to acoomdate pressure changes. Just wait for the cold to clear or take Afrin.
h-mac
Go to the doctor and he'll use the earwasher thang.

Once it's cleaned out you will feel like Spiderman because you'll be able to hear positively everything for a little while.

Yeah, colds will do that.

Anyone else find it strange that people come here to find out basic medical advice instead of going to a medical site? Neowin is not on the top of my list for medical advice. Someone could say I have a cold when in fact I might have lung cancer.

Ouch. I would go see my doctor wink.gif

I once had this exact same problem. Here's how I solved it:

Take your hand and put it over your ear such that the air is trapped. Then squeese against your head, forcing the air out, then pull back out which pulls against your ear a little bit. Keep doing it and eventually you should be fine.

I always put qtips in my ears. How else you meant to clean right there?

Try a drop of olive oil in your ear. It's meant to dissolve the wax. (don't hold me responsible, .lol)

Isn't there that stuff you can buy, it's on the tele, and it melts the wax?

Lol, ouch...

huh.gif Recently had blocked up ears -- I injected warm water with an eyedropper to loosen the dirt, then dug them out. Also poured in some peroxide. smile.gif

That sounds healthy tongue.gif

I've seen some chinese medicine dudes, putting these funnel candles in ears, and it creates a vacuum that gentle pulls all the crap out.

There was loads of it, even in apparently clean ears. sick.gif

edit: just been reading on ear candles. they are a bit phoney... http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelate...s/candling.html

This isn't something you really want to be messing with. It isn't earwax or dirty ears. Don't go squirting water or anything else in there. If you have a cold and a blocked ear, they are related. Your sinuses are full which places fluid behind the ear. It will go away when the cold does or you can speed it up by using a decongestant.

Don't be seeking medical advice in Neowin! Don't even listen to me! smile.gif But, I do know a little about this as I have been a military pilot for 26 years and this is something that all pilots worry about.
JiveMasterT
come to neowin for computer viruses... not human viruses. doctor.gif

I always found that the doctor using that syringe thingy, never worked for me...

So what I was suggested to try, was Olive Oil... Warm it up, in a small cup, in warm water !
You need to leave it in for about 20mins. When you tilt your head to pour the Olive Oil out, you can feel it coming out, and when you wipe your face, you can even see some chunks of wax tongue.gif

yeah thats the best way cuz if you try some of those wacky things like ear candling or something you could mess up your ear drums.
