hmmm good question, no one has helped with the new shellstyles, and I wanted to supply new shellstyles with the new version, but I suppose if enough people want it without new ones I can release it early. But like I said my computer is having really wierd problems, which I attribute to lack of power, so sometimes I can use it for hours sometimes not at all... so we'll see.

Chris
Endoscient
ill help with shell styles, what u need help with (never done them before)

just wondering why can't you do it yourself
bigmoose
i would love to help out,. but wouldnt know how

any tutes?
aleni
would be good if watercolor using custom bitmap on start button, not the standard flag wink.gif
Jessterw
Been awhile since I visited this thread, almost forgot about it after Neowin went down ermm.gif Glad to see that you've been busy working on an update (sorry to hear about your power issues). I'd actually stopped using visual styles for a bit, mainly because of SP1, but I went back to using Watercolor the other day... because it's just so damn nice to look at biggrin.gif
Neobond
Same here, Watercolor has always been on my system and I just upgraded to V4 (after SP1)

Good work Binary
Binary
Thanks for the comments guys smile.gif

Neo Cyborg: I can do them myself, I just dont know how you guys want them to look. The ones included look like the sidebars from the 2419 build, but some people have complained that they wanted new shellstyles cause the ones included are ugly wink.gif

ps. mozilla's text input is god awful, too slow for my liking smile.gif

Chris

is there anyway to fix the icon text overlay? For example:

i'd rather get rid of the blue box underneath the icon text, and just have the text on top of the wallpaper.
lawtai
To get rid of the overlay, just right click properties on my computer, then goto advanced performance settings, then click on the use drop shadows. That'll get rid of the box around the icon text.

ewwwh...is it just me or does that look bad?
Binary
Drop shadows on icon text looks extremely bad when clear type is on, but they look wicked if clear type is off :0 I never use clear type, it's blurry and it's meant for lcd's anyways smile.gif Also if you dont like that there are numerous freeware programs to remove the boxes and even change text colour. One i can think of off the top of my head would be transtext by ChaosSoft:

http://www.chaossoft.com/trtext.shtml

Works Great, but make sure you dont have the drop shadow option on when u run the prog, or it will have no effect on the text smile.gif

The only thing i dont like about watercolor is the color of the taskbar flashing... I cant stand that peach color!

Is it very hard to change if i were to load up style builder or whatever i need?

I've never tried theming before but i've done a lot of graphics work.
username
i think the point of this skin is to look just like the watercolor in whistler, not some new custom version

a new shellstyle would be nice though, maybe just the same one that luna has (or can i do that on my own?)

/edit, wow, i didnt' know you could switch shell styles so easily, can make a nice combination now

It's orange actually, I wanted to keep the flash colour the same as luna's, plus orange gets your attention. I agree taskbar flashing is annoying in the first place, I think you can disable it with TweakUI?

Chris

Its a peach color for me, not like the orange in luna. I do like the flashing though, but just a flashing of dark gray would be nicer for me.

edit: this is the color #FFB895

it looks peach!

Where can I find this orange (or "peach") Watercolor? Anyone know where I can find black also?

The peach that i was talking about is when the taskbar items blink to notify you
Binary
Maybe we use different colour profiles, that would explain it smile.gifI also seem to notic that some supposed "blue" themes look purple to me *shrug* smile.gif

yeah, don't forget about monitors and LCDs. my crappy LCD can't display bright colors too well. it all just turns too bright and mixes with the white. as for my monitor, i try to keep the brightness to 50%, but the colors flucuate drastically as i change the %. smile.gif

/me must be colour blind wink.gif Oh well you can always change it yourself in style builder. Just select the element and desaturate it. smile.gif

Chris
PuntoDoc
I think I found a bug...

Just take a look at these screenshots @ winsupersite

From build 2410:

http://www.winsupersite.com/images/reviews...410per_0002.gif

http://www.winsupersite.com/images/reviews...410per_0011.gif

From build 2416:

http://www.winsupersite.com/images/reviews...416pro_0003.gif

http://www.winsupersite.com/images/reviews...416pro_0020.gif

http://www.winsupersite.com/images/reviews...416pro_0021.gif

That window status, when you can't focus the previous window without closing the focused first is missing from the visual style...

Instead it just stays like the "inactive" status...

Hope this hasn't been posted before

Cheers,

PuntoDoc.

I've never done any style building, but i've done plenty of graphics with photoshop/illustrator etc... Is there a good tutorial for style builder or should i just mess around?
althema
I found a small bug in watercolor v4, when i open a small image file

(64x64 pixel) in photoshop. And if I move the mouse pointer to the

right border or bottom-right conner, mouse pointer didn't change and

I can't change the size of that child window. But if I change the window

size (from the other conner), the right and bottom-right become normal.

Sorry for my poor english language.. sick.gif

Now that you mention it, I have the same thing. Always thought it was a bug with photoshop, but after switching to Luna, Classic and a few other themes...I realize it only happens with Watercolor. Hopefully Binary will solve it for us. smile.gif
Binary
Ok, First the pinky disabled window cannot be done, the new msstyle format only allows two states, inactive and active. Second the Resize bug on small windows has plagued every watercolour type style and I have no clue why, so I havent found a fix, and dont know if it's even possible to fix.

xWeston: I dont know of any tutitorials, but it's fairly easy to figure out smile.gif

Chris
Toxikk
have you figured out how to fix the "ghost" pixels that are left around the top of each window? :paranoid:
Binary
Thats not fixable. Sorry.

What are the ghost pixels that you are talking about?

That bug in photoshop is weird but not all that annoying smile.gif

BTW, Binary even though i criticize your peach color in the taskbar i really love the theme, dont think im saying its no good! smile.gif
kenshin
Yep... "photoshop" bug is little... but annoyin neither the less....

not just photoshop.... it seems any smallish size window is affected.... open Windows Explorer ....

great theme... but yeh... the default luna windows icon isn't that nice... would b nice if we could change it ...

thanks alot binary for a killa theme... =]

cant wait for 5.0 =) hehe

That's bad! Damn MS!
Binary
The "ghost" pixels are the transparent pixels above the titlebar, goes about 2 pixels up (you can only notice it on windows that are supposed to be maximized after opening a second time). If I got rid of that transparency, then the mozaic would be totally screwed, and also you'd have 2 extra pixels above the controls, which doesnt look very even imo, so I'm leaving it as is. I wish MS would have updated the code to fix all these bugs, since they know people are skinning XP with their permission or not *sigh*.

If I were a programmer I would have decompiled and fixed all these bugs long ago (yes I know that would be illegal but too bad huh? wink.gif). But I'm not so once again *sigh*.

Chris
teka
Water Color 4.0 Best VS ever tongue.gif
kenshin
binary dude.... can u plz help me find the only "bug" in wc4....

the photoshop/small window bug...

2 other ppl above found the problem....

i cant seem to fix it no matter what.... i've changed the Window Frames to match other skins, edited the graphics etc... but still to no ava...

bug: if the window is smallish... u cant resize the window thru the right or bottom or bottom/right.... only can resize thru the left or the top...

plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... i know this is a really small bug... but its annoyin like heck.... esp working with photoshop everyday... using small images....

thx in advance
Binary
I already answered that above, I too have no idea what causes this, I have tried everything aswell, but nothing has fixed it. You can just drag the other corner, not that big of a deal smile.gif If anyone wants to help iron out the few couple remaining bugs, then I'll add you to my readme tongue.gif But seriously I can't fix it, I have tried everything I know, I've compared values to luna, and used lunas, and other themes frame files, nothing has worked.

Chris
kenshin
omg... hehehe

hey i figured out EXACTLY wat was causing it.... gawd... its like 7am here in aus... haven't slept yet but so damn happy i solved it....

What i did was Transparent = false in captions...

and yeh doin that gives a 2 pixel pink image.... but after doin that it solved the resizing error...

so to fix the pink pixel problem without ruinnin the "mosiac" effect ... i openned photoshop and converted the FrameCaption.bmp file to 32bit col and resized it upabit then cropped it... then changed it back to 256colors

there's a slight slight difference, and only if i look really hard.... between windowed and fullscreen windows but definately worth it....

all thats left for me now is to change the 'start' button smile.gif

anyone noe how to take off that ugly winxp flag??? no matter wat i do it stays there... and i cant find it in stylebuilder...

once again.... cheers to binary.... tongue.gif
kenshin
oh yeh... there's also a visible difference between a max app and one thats windowed (captionbar wise)

but yeh... wat was really buggin me was movin the mouse to the left of the window... resizing it abit then runnin outta room then having to go back to the right side to resize again ehehe

oh one last thing....

if u were gonna have 2 pink pixels in the captionbar... why not just make it 18 pixel high like classic mode instead of 20 pixels ala luna...*cough*

prob due to using ms gfx is my guess yeh?

wink.gif tongue.gif :dead:

I have done everything in order to keep the mozaic looking perfect, and the titlebar true to the original watercolour style. If you make it 18 in height, there will still be 2 pixels above the - [] X

controls, which is what I didnt want, because it looks stupid imo.

I've worked with the theme for a year, I know what can and can't be done wink.gif And I already knew that the transparency was causing it, but I didnt know how to fix it, I still dont know whats causing it to happen to my theme and not others, some other themes use transparency in the titlebar and the problem doesnt happen.

Chris

2 yrs ... ohmy.gif

eheh well looks fine to me the mosaic is perfect

neway once again thanks for the skin

working on anything new atm?
iLuMiNuS
there is a update to the watercolor floating around, which is a "slim" version of the theme with a thinner start panel window, and its in the ergonomic color, does anyone know of this theme?? i want it!
SOOPAH256
