Hi, how would someone become a mod or smod or whatever? Just one of many random questions that pop up in my mind. I do not remember reading that in one of the, not rules, but other info pages.

Indeed, that is the way

Be polite to members, follow the rules - and most of all, help others.

posting quality and a level head is more important then the post count number. follow the rules, etc. you make yourself stand out that way.

^ (@gazebee) No, I don't think so, but you should have enough posts to be recognized by other staff members... right?

obviously you can't be a mod if you just joined yesterday, but if you play by the rules, time spend on Neowin is not a big issue..

give it up people, this has been asked a thousand times or more already. It is clear you have to do "favors" or know someone well to become a mod. It's kind of like organized crime...

Actually, me being a super mod was basically timing. I was added on before there were forum specific mods. When the system was altered, any existing mods became super mods.

But yes, dedication is important. If I'm not at work or playing ball, I'm usually on Neowin just making sure things are goings smoothly.

The way that I see it is this.
If you want to become a mod, you must do the following. Just be nice to other members, avoid flaming or getting a warning level, and keep a level head in a crisis. You don't need to know any of the staff, nor must you be a subscriber beforehand. Eventually, when you least realize it, you will probably be asked to join the staff.
Asking and sucking up to other staff members don't help your chances out either.

Mods are picked generally on need. If we feel the need for more mods, we'll take on a few more. Most new mods are put forward by existing mods; people look for good behaviour and an informative post history.

I want to be an Admin

looks like its easier then being a Mod, dont gotta go around all day fixing people posts and editing things and making sure everyones going by the rules. Then again, the Admins gotta pay the bills for the server (I think??) and they gotta do board maintenance and all that i guess, hmm i like bein g a regular member, maybe i'll even subscribe if i manage to come up with some money for it
yeah, much easier being a member than a mod. being a mod is no big deal anyway...I'm a mod on another site, not much to it really. Can be a pain in the ass really at times...
