Hi

I am trying to transfer about 20gb of files to an external HDD, which is NTFS Windows formatted. I have made the settings so that it should work, not read-only, but on the Powerbook it comes up with the "Unable to write" message basically.

I can't reformat to FAT 32 or anything, so what should I do?

OS X cannot write to NTFS. You will HAVE to make it FAT32 if you want read/write access on both Windows and the Mac (unless you have a program called MacDrive for Windows, which lets Windows read the HFS file system that Macs use).
