In the TigerDirect.com catalog, I saw a Wintergreen system with Linspire installed. The price: $249. Should I buy it?
Excuse me for being blunt, but how should we know? I think you need to give more information, but even then, it's up to you.

The Linspire OS isn't awful. You can choose to freely replace it with a different Linux flavor if you don't like it.
The hardware... Well, I have no clue.
