Vista Glass 1.4



Here's my try at skinning Miranda IM's contact list to look like Aero Glass, the new user interface found in Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows Vista.

The icon on the title bar opens the main menu, minimize and close buttons do what they should, along with the pretty glow.

Installation Instructions:

First, If you are not running Windows 2000/XP/2003 don't bother. Windows 95/98/ME does not support Window Per-Pixel Alpha Blending.

1. Make sure you have the latest build of Miranda IM from here. Unzip to a directory of your choice.

2. Make sure you have the latest build of Modern Contact List Layered from here. Unzip this to the plugins directory that is located in the directory you unzipped/installed Miranda IM to.

3. Run Miranda, and make sure that in the options window, under plugins, that Modern Contact List Layered is selected and other contact list plugins are NOT selected.

4. Restart Miranda.

5. Create a "Modern Contact List Layered Skins" directory in the Miranda directory. You can name your skins directory what ever you'd like. Unzip my Vista skin to this directory.

6. Go back into the Miranda options window, and go to Customize -> Skin. Use the "Browse" button on this page to select the msf file in the directory you unzipped the skin to. Once the skin shows up in the options window, click Apply (the one just below the Browse button).

7. To get the contact list to look like mine, disable group icons. (Contact List -> Row Items -> Icon Tab -> Check "Hide Groups Icon")

hey, jimbo. great skin. i was just wondering if i could release my vista skin sometime perhaps next week or whenever you would prefer (or if you don't mind at all). your skin inspired me to make my own vista skin

You in part were my inspiration, russellc. Along with KoL and Microsoft lol. You can release yours when ever you'd like. I don't mind. I made this for myself and thought I'd share it. ModernClear was great but I wanted to do my own thang and make me a Vista skin lol, and the ones I found on Miranda weren't up to my expectations.

haha great. yeah, modernclear was motivated from lack of skins that i liked on the miranda site ..your skin is great as well, got me thinking that i should give it a shot as well, and it didn't turn out that bad at all ..anyway, great skin jimbo! thanks for the compliment, btw

@Lord Dufus: i'll refer you to this post which was posted in my modernclear thread. it pretty much covers everything you need to do to get skins working. just skip step #5 there (as that was just a problem with my skin at the time)

That's a very nice skin. Too bad it's for Miranda.

Get your hands on Windows Vista lol and all your software will look something like that... Actually they will look better...

i dont have miranda, but that looks pretty dam good, if i ever get bored with msn messenger, i know what im going to be using
a skin like this for msn would rock

Also, you might want to tell people to click on "Apply" after they browsed it. I thought I just needed to browse it for the skin to work but you have to click on Apply too.

If anyone has any other tips/something to add to the instructions or skin, let me know.

first time I ever got the skin to work properly..

I think this is an issue with any application when the captionbar text is really really long.

Might I make a suggestion? Could you try making the status bar look like the toolbar in vista? What I mean by this is, have the toolbar stretch down; and where the back/forward and address bar would normally be, have the status and icon. So basically... I just want the status bar on the top, with glass behind it instead of the gradient.

I'm not sure how to explain it right, but if you know what I mean could you take a crack at it? I'm going to try it myself later, but it'd be nice if you could release an official copy.

You can mod it like that if you want to, Trojan. I like keeping my status bar at the bottom where a status bar belongs.

Heh, alright. Well I've gotten most of it... but I'm not quite getting how the msf file works, exactly. I know I'll figure it out in 5 minutes though.

I've gotten the titlebar down, and the transparent address bar png from Vista, at the top. I'm just now trying to fart with the margins.
