The design is really nice, perfectly made for my hands and so far all my other friends that have tested it,have liked it. Gaming so far isn't to bad... i'll try and make a good review soon and post some pics (im sure u all know what it looks like though)
anyway, heres a crappy picture of it for now...I'll be testing quite a bit of games out hopefully.

How about a screenshot of the configuration software?
Meshuggah
Oct 28 2005, 18:14
Hmmm, don't know why I didn't think about talking about that. That's what sucks. The install disc is only 43.6mb and is full of EULA's for all the countries and readme's. Then you have the drivers that it installs, but there is no special software. You have to go to the control panel, game controllers

How much can be configured and are the buttons digital or analogue?
Meshuggah
Oct 28 2005, 21:06
both...not much configuration...no support so far for COD 2. which is really disappointing since it's going to come out for xbox 360....i kind of wanted to have a semi 360 experience today, but im using keyboard/mouse...oh well...at least i can turn up the graphics reasonably well
720p, extra on all settings, 2x anti aliaising, runs pretty smooth
::: doesnt work on ut2004 either

You're joking right? I have a similar system as you except mine has a 6800GT and it does not run smooth with extra settings + 2x AA.. You must have a better card then a 9700 ATI. Do you have a 7800 or X1800 Series card?
Also even if you manage to get the x360 controller to work with Call of Duty 2 you aren't going to have the same experience as with the Xbox360 version. It was built for control with that controller rather then a mouse/PC combo so things have been changed quite a bit.

Hey Meshuggah,
Nice little write-up

Hopefully MS will release a dongle that will allow the X360's wireless controllers to work with the PC.
I'm glad it feels comfortable

Take care dude

The game runs like crap on nVidia cards. That's pretty well documented at this point.

Games not supported by Xbox 360 Controller:
Unreal Tournament 2004
Call Of Duty 2
F.E.A.R.
Age Of Empires III (obviously)
Quake 4
Battlefield 2
Doom 3 and Doom 3 Expansion
Halo
Farcry
Games Supported so far:
Moto GP3
that's really all I can test. microsoft/modder needs to make some sort of program so we can define each key as an actual button in the keyboard, sort of like my Nyko Fan controller. Definatly not looking good for the whole xbox 360/pc thing so far... I might even return it and just wait to buy the console...it's not even wireless now that I'm thinking about it

http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-23353-2687-x-x-xgamespot review of 360-PC controller...
QUOTE
Microsoft didn't ship a fancy driver interface with the controller. But once we dug in to the control panel and clicked on the game controller icon, we found a few Xbox 360 controller utilities. Through the software, we were able to test all the buttons as well as calibrate the controller. The calibration software clearly demonstrated deficiencies in the controller. We tried to achieve a proper 50/50 calibration, but it proved rather difficult, as the analog sticks rarely float back to center when released. (This is true, happens to me)
We tried out the controller on a few games to see how it performed. With Psychonauts, it took a little bit of effort, but we had the usual Xbox controls mapped to the controller within minutes. At that point, aside from the vastly improved graphics, we found it hard to tell the difference between the PC version and the Xbox one. Then we moved on to Juiced, a racing game, where steering with the controller's analog sticks felt quite sloppy, regardless of calibration. Oddly, steering with them in Moto GP3 turned out just fine. And as expected, other games, like The Suffering, had no gamepad support at all. For giggles, we also tried out Counter-Strike: Source. We could map a few of the controls, but certain controls, like strafing, simply cannot be mapped to the analog sticks.
We're pleased with how the Xbox 360 controller functions on the PC, considering no one's really paid much attention to gamepads on the PC for years. However, with the almost guaranteed ubiquity of the Xbox 360 controller, we're sure to see more--and better--support for gamepads in the future.

I just posted a question about the controler in the hardware section. But, my problem is the same as the above review:

This is 100% true. Xbox probably has a built in "dead-zone" so this isn't an issue. I hope that Microsoft releases a good set of drivers, that allow you to enter a dead-zone in.
I have been using this for battlefield 2 (for flying). It is frustrating that the controller doesn't fully return to center.

Guess what?
Not everyone who plays FPS games on PC's uses only the keyboard and mouse to play. You know there are people in the world who prefer controllers for them. Me being one of them. I can play both ways but I'm better using the controllers.

every controller has a purpose, and I'm sorry but gamepad purpose is not to be used for FPS games.

When you are tired from sitting at the office or on your home PC you'd want to relax somewhat, either play laying down or in a couch, you can't do that with a mouse.

Well, its a lot more comfortable than the logitech ones...around the same buttons, but i dont know what the drivers are for the Logi's...
Software sucks for this, but I'm hearing that they are already working on solving that part. Aside from that, it's not bad at all. I've been running from the cops on NFS and the analog stick works pretty well. It took me a little getting used to the sensitivity of NFS, but once you establish that, it's smooth sailing,

Well, I just got back from best buy and exchanged my 'old' 360 controller for a new one....this one's analog sticks are much better, lol, they almost actually stay centered.... Microsoft is definatly goign to have some user complaints with these new controllers since it seems I'm not the only one
If you buy one of these controllers, I suggest you buy the 8 dollar replacement plan for 2 years, you're probably going to need it. Also, make sure you test your controller's analog sticks, if they aren't close to being centered, return it before it's too late.
Can you use the 360 controller with the USB adapter on the Xbox?? Just wondering as I need to replace a contoller on my Xbox, and I'm planning on getting a 360 early next year

Etremetechs review of the XBOX 360 controllerThey tell you its exactly same as the one sold for the 360 and all you need to do (if you by the 360 version which is $5 cheaper) is when it looks for drivers have it look online and it will download them for you automatically.
By the way a gamepad is great for Mame!
