Anyone know the ports used by Windows Live Messenger 8?

i dont know but the program is called "Windows Live Messenger" any program or service in the windows live begins with windows live followed by a descriptor of the product.

messenger uses dynamic ports---if one port is blocked the program automatically searches for an open port. not sure about live messenger but msn messenger uses port 1863 by default. hope this helps. what are you trying to accomplish

Are you trying to use it? Just join the beta, its not that hard and you will most likely get accepted. I can invite you if you want. just PM me your emial and I willsend you an invite. IT has to be the same email you use to connect to MSN MESSENGER

I'm joined in with the beta etc. I've recently installed Microsoft OneCare and it blocks certain ports (as shown by the connection troubleshooter in Windows Live Messenger, saying key ports are the problem). It does ask if I want to allow it with the firewall, but it just doesnt work, it keeps coming up asking if I wish to unblock it. I therefore assumed my only hope would lie with manually unblocking those ports that WLM uses.

I'm just in the process of re-installing WLM to see if things sort themselves out.

EDIT: MessPatch seemed to be messing the whole thing up, installing just the base WLM works fine.

There already is a DEDICATED topic already in this sub-forum, and WLM is a public beta. Please, try to be more self-sufficient and search around a bit.

It uses like most other programs Port 80 (Well mine does )

What are you talking about? WLM isnt in a Public Beta as of yet but it will be very soon.
