Looks like Nintendo Europe has released their Super Mario Sunshine visual style / icon suite.

They use WindowBlinds and IconPackager technology to do this.

Here's a screenshot:

You have to have a Gamecube to get these. I'm not sure if it's only applicable to Nintendo Europe or not. Will do more digging.

What do you mean, you have to have a Gamecube? Are they doing serial # verification?
thornz0
lil to bright for me, but its still a very nice skin.

wonder if this could become a trend, id be awesome to see some more professional skins for games like Starcraft Ghost or something more techish.

My thought about this is best said by a quote from Plankton from SpongeBob

Yeah, in my copy of Mario Sunshine (released today) there's a Nintendo VIP 24:7 card with a pin numnber on it, I've now got access to the theme, screensaver and players guide. I've also got 455 stars (200 for regging, 5 for the visit and 250 for Mario) ohmy.gif wink.gif . Now, lets see if I can grab the gamecube theme...

I'm gonna install Windowblinds and this theme on Virtual PC on my Mac, that's a true test of Windowblinds performance skills wink.gif

When I think of Visual Style, I don't think of WB..... more ox a hacked uxtheme.dll
Dazzla
Ok, Frogboy, I've downloaded the themes, they were in a zip with 3 files, "SuperMarioSunshine.sdtheme", "SuperMarioSunshine800.sdtheme" and "SuperMarioSunshine1280.sdtheme". What are these?

Heh. I also regestered my gamecube, I'm up to almost a thousand points now, they can be used to "buy" things from their site such as screensavers for PC and Mac, T-Shirt transfers, Wallpapers etc.
Frogboy
Visual style is just a type of skin - GUI type skin.

I like the term visual style because it helps distinguish between a MP3 player skin and a complete GUI skin.
Fil
Aahhh, now come on.. That style is excellent. Exactly what I want to see from a professional skin. If I can get more like that tell me where, and what apps do I need??

As for Mario Sunshine VS, someone must have acidentally hosted that for a few hours inadvertantly allowing people to download it by mistake.

Hint, hint.

IM me at fil1976@hotmail.com if you have accidentally done this.
Joel
Frogboy, are we allowed to ask for this theme from the members who have it?
Dazzla
These are the wallpapers I have in my "treasure chest" from Nintendo as a gesture of goodwill:

I also have the Gamecube and Mario themes as well as something called "Nintendo Desktop Manager" so I guess that controls the themes.

Here's a list of the goodies I have by default:

MusicMan08
Anyone Know how to install these?

I already have windowblinds.

and winstyles, but these aren't working, they have a different file extention...

Thanks

smile.gif
MusicMan08
To Use these just rename the files to .xptheme

that will allow you to use them with winstyles without installing the .exe that comes with the themes...

That was done for WB 3.4 as an extra limitation of the trial version. I think Stardock took it out again in a later build, but I'm not sure of that.
jago6498
I just installed the files "Kola" linked to and it looks pretty awesome. Good thing I didn't have to download all those individual StarDock programs cause that meant I would have had to download multiple cracks.
JediXAngel
Talking about cracks directly to StarDock's founder/ CEO is not very wise.

y? what is he going to do? i dont use his products anyways. I installed that Gamecube/Mario Sunshine theme and like I mentioned before, it was slow. MSStyles might not be as flashy as WindowsBlinds, but at least they are faster.tongue.gif

The LACK of respect this site's uninformed users shows against StarDock is really disturbing, for me this is always been a huge issue I have with Neowin users.

1) Microsoft Love WindowBlinds MORE

2) StarDock makes many GOOD softwares, and should be a priced product! Why give away good products ALL for free? (Stop complaining it's priced) They are already nice enough for you to use it with limited features, for free.

3) Tgtsoft's software is a Hack, and they are charging people money for it? It makes NO sense whatsoever! Why don't you people ever complaining about them, Instead?

Deal with IT!!!

I would love a Zelda theme!

I have been waiting for a Good Star Wars one like that Mario theme, for a long long time!

Oh, you don't think with StarDock's abilities, they can't come up with MsStyles? In fact, they done it, but that FACT Microsoft doesn't like it much when Stardock did it!!!

Brad/Frogboy is just respectful to MS's wish and like "Ok, I am not going to modify your core OS files, just to accomplish what Tgtsoft claimed it's fame for".

Didn't you Windows XP Service Pack 1 users notice the patch by TGTsoft didn't work anymore?

Overall, WindowBlinds is a Safer way to skin. Tgtsoft = NOT as safe!

When a software that CAN DO MORE like this, it does not take a Rocket scientist to figure it will be little slower.

However, unless you are a SPEED freak, or you have a system that sucks ass, you won't notice much anyways.

Not on my 933MHZ Pentium III, anyway.

No one complains about StyleXP because it isn't slow like WB and it is VERY simple to use. And who cares if they charge, thats what a crack is for biggrin.gif tongue.gif.

I have NEVER had a problem with StyleXP AND it works PERFECTLY in Windows XP w/ Service Pack #1 installed.

My machine is very fast (see my sig). Whenever I have installed WB (including the Gamecube/Mario Sunshine theme), I have to wait for the theme to completely load and refresh after starting windows. Thats annoying. with MSstyles, I can start using it right away. The only things I have starting in my task bar btw are RivaTuner, Daemon Tools & Norton Antivirus 2002.

Long time reader, first time poster here and I'm so happy to see Neowin back smile.gif
Anyway, I'm running a bit behind here and just recently found out about this theme. I was hoping someone would be so kind as to either post a link to this theme (links on second page no longer work) or even email it to me. Thanks in advance.

First of all I know this is a late reply but I think it deserves a good rebuttal because these three opinions show a lack of knowledge on the author's part.

1. Where have you heard this?Microsoft is not a visual style company and the only themes they've ever made have been for .msstyles, if they wanted to use Windows Blinds they would have, they're a big boy company and can make there own products. (Don't bother telling me Microsoft licensed a theming engine from Stardock, complete absolute nonsense, I'll believe it when I see Microsoft mentioning this)

2. Agreed, but for every Stardock product there is an equal substitute that in many cases is faster and better. Take Yz'Dock, it is far better then Object Dock which you have to pay money for (!)(Quite absurd seeing how it is a completely rediculous product that shouldnt have a price tag)

Another thing, MSStyles can do everything you'd ever need in a visual style, sans the bloat and lame animation in titlebar things.

3. StarDock's "Window Blinds" products could also be described as a hack since they plug into Windows API and functions of they're own, so when you think of it that way, Stardock's products are no worse. We are still using Windows, remember? You cannot just go make your own function out of Windows specs and expect it to run. smile.gif

i thought object was Free?! ... would Apple KILL Stardock if they charged for it? ... well, in its present state anyhow, maybe if it became as diverse as object bar, but hey, its NOT! .. maybe i missed something, i thought Object Dock was Freeware! wink.gif

Err. You should maybe check your facts there. ObjectDock is free.

Plus:
  • YzDock: XP Only
  • msstyles: XP only
  • Well. you get the picture.

I think this discussion is getting a little carried away from the original post...how about stick to the topic at hand, and leave the mud slinging to another forum.
