I can't get windows media files to play in firefox, for instance if i go to thatvideosite and try to view something it says i'm missing the plugin, and i don't know how to get it to install as firefox can't install the plugin and going to manual install doesn't do anything but take me to the windows media player site and i can't get it to work for nothing. Anyone have a solution?

This is a known issue in Vista. Please check
this page out and follow the instructions. I had this problem too and it worked when I copied the DLLs to my FF plug-ins directory.

(Damn, beated.

I'm going to make this thread the official one and pin it for a time being. It seems many people have had this issue lately.

i use the IE tab extension to render the page using the IE engine, so windows media stuff comes up.

OK I got this to work but now the vidoe is bigger than the plugin box and I dont have media player controls. (pause stop etc) did I do something wrong.

I followed all of the above suggestions but still no luck with windows live space. Anybody have any idea?
Hmm that's weird. I had this problem under Vista and couldn't get it to work... but now it seems to have randomly fixed itself, but instead of opening up another instance of WMP (which IE did) it just implements the video into a new tab...

Sorry to revive an old thread but I should say that the official fix doesn't work too well for me. One of the sites I had problems with was
http://www.wrestlinggonewrong.com; all their videos are .wmv and with the official fix, the video is missing completely from the page, but the sound plays.
Thankfully, the fix from the second post sorted it all out. Thanks, bangbang023!
