Project name: LunaVista
Project type: Windows Vista Visual Style.
So here is my very first theme for Vista. I actually find it more interesting to do and kind of easier than older Windows XP themes which encouraged me to get something good done. This is the very first beta release of what I call "Windows Whistler Rebirth"
"From the Joe who invented the "Windows Longhorn Redesigned Start Menu" or RxStart (which was never finished/nor taken into consideration... wait maybe it was) When even Google search knows about it... (It sounds like a movie intro right?)"
Since I know most people like myself kind of miss the blue-ish feeling that once used to fill up our souls while working in front of a Personal Computer powered by Microsoft's Windows XP OS, and since we all fall in the common fact that "everything evolves to better" and had to leave behind what is old and get into what will make our days to come either hell or heaven, I decided it was nice to bring back the Bliss feeling to Windows Vista once again, but this time with the clarity and confidence that Vista brings us.
(updated) Well without wasting any more of this thread's bytes of information, I present "LunaVista". Previously I named it "Windows Whistler Rebirth" but that's old story now. As always any feedback is good for everyone so don't mind posting back your whines. Thanks. Enjoy. I also added the Project A3 Wallpaper that some of you requested.
This is an SFX self-install package. Although it will most likely not work, hence Windows Vista's new UAC. If it doesn't try running as "Administrator". This package includes the following:
1 - Visual Style for Windows Vista
2 - Wallpaper 1280 x 1024
1 - Windows Sidebar Theme*
1 - Uxtheme.dll patch for Windows Vista x86 (zip file).

LunaVista Theme Pack *You will need Windows Sidebar Styler in order to apply the theme. Please download from here: Windows Sidebar Styler Screenshots:

I like it., but not very Watercolory
Yeah I didn't really went for the Watercolor themes if that's what you are talking about. Whistler was simply XP's codename, I'm using XP's colors from Luna, to be exact... sorry if it leads anyone to confusions

I'll upload tonight.

Nice one... i would just put some bevel/emboss on the outside of the window frames

.... it would give it a nice effect...too flat otherwise

but this is only for the basic theme (without aero glass)
I'm curious, what do you use to transform the vista mss.styles?
Thanks for sharing

We are way past monday....
Well done. The only thing I don't like is the windows. Those need work imho.

Care to share the wallpaper? It's hard to find pictures of that her. She's a character in some console game that only was released in Japan. I can't remember the name of it.

Cool Thanks!
I will still work on it a little bit more and make sure it looks better; gotta fix some minor details (almost unnoticeable

) in the Basic theme. As well as figure out how to change the name so that it doesn't display :Windows Aero: on the classic apperance cpl. Anyone who knows how to do this give me a shot. And I tried looking all over shellstyle and the msstheme itself with no luck.
I'm working on another theme by now and this one promises to be way better
I patched uxtheme.dll and other 2 files. rebooted.
Moved the lunavista folder to windows/resource/themes/
Doesnt show on theme change and clicking on LunaVista.msstyles doesnt do anything either. How to get working?
Jazket
Mar 17 2007, 20:13
Yeah I don't know how but I haven't figured out the way to change the name from Windows Aero to Luna Visa. So when you go to the classic Apperance options you will see two "Windows Aero" themes. Click both until you see the one that's blue like Luna.
Oh, also if you rename the folder to anything with spaces, it will not show. make sure the folder name is "lunavista" and not "luna vista"
I've been looking for a reference under the shellstyle.dll.mui to see if there the theme name is stored there... nothing yet. Didn't find it inside msstyle either.
Post anything else that concern you guys so I can update this theme soon with some fixes i'm working on...

Speaking of failures. Only a "failure" would make a point of posting on a thread that obviously doesn't interest him and then berate the thread starter.

I like how your replaced the glass reflections with the stars. Cool idea. The only thing I don't like is how the blue streak on the startbar never changes color when you change the color of the windows.
Looking forward to the next.

I notice this theme (which looks quite nice) is an .exe. Can I use this if I already have WindowBlinds 5.5 installed? Do I need to unload WindowBlinds or can I just download it and install?

it is not for windows blind it can be used without it u can just drag and drop it in WinRAR and extract the files and read the instructions in it !!

No need to yell !!
I'm fully aware that it's not for WindowBlinds, that's why I asked about any conflicts or if I should unload WB. And it's an .exe, there are no "instructions".

i have to say also that screwing around with those .dll files has effected my registry and i had to to do a system restore to get my themes working again. i think i will wait awhile till either microsoft comes out with some proper vista themes or the user created themes have a different install method as the changing of the .dll files is shonky and cause corruption....

I must admit that I like this theme very much (Not a vista user but I just had to have look)
You have done a good job with making it. I would feel alot more "home" if I used it and alot easier to find stuff. Personally I think the default(black theme) is way to dark and I kinda like the blue in Windows XP. (but I hate the startbutton to bits).
This would be a clear choice for me if I used vista.

(..windowsblinds port I really would like (want to use it on XP)

Well you need to be carefull with what you mod in your system. Remeber those DLLs are patched. Try "googling" for a newer uxtheme.dll patch version I don't know if it exist. That might fix your problem... I had some kind of problem with my girlfriend's PC and she has the same version I have (Ultimate) when all of a sudden the start menu wouldn't render anything but a squared trasparent box with no buttons and program icons.. So i had to do a system restore as well. Then I reapplied the patch and it worked fine...
I think that would only happen if you forget one out of the 3 dlls you are suppose to replace.
Im glad to see yall like it

OH also minimaxa, make sure the LunaVista folder is named "LunaVista" nor "Aero" or "Luna Vista" with a space, for it won't work like that.
I forgot to mention ....
please rate my work ....
lol (a moth later...) thanks

lunavista is up and running and seems stable. i had the same issue with lost/blank icons with the classic skin as you although i'm running vista home premium it was the uxtheme error im sure. i reinstalled the uxtheme patch and had to move the lunavista msstyles to the first entry in its folder for personalisation to recognise, now i have numerous vista aero and basic entries from other vista msstyles i have dl'd (would be nice if someone knows an edit trick to change the names so personalisation shows them?)
can you tell us did you use windowsblinds 5.5 then skinstudio to create or what other program and did you create them in vista or do you have to switch back to xp for creation?
i have seen a few vista styles which are mock ups which look wicked i want to try and create these to release so i just want the best method to start creating them.
thanks!

It looks very nice but it could use come soft of bevel on the title bar to make it look like Luna -or a granident and make it look like Royale
This is a nice VS but just doesn't work for me. I followed the instructions perfecty but oh well.
Well I got it working now, but how to maintain transperancy with maximized windows?

Yeah, happens to all Vista themes so far. I tried to edit the title in Reshacker, but it is not the same as in XP. Anyone know how to edit the name that appears?

Oh what did I use?
PE Explorer, and Photoshop.

It was all done under Windows Vista. The reason why, I had to constantly copy-paste the contents of the theme into the Resource and reload to re-test, because for some reason, the color management in Windows Vista is not the same as in Windows XP anymore. So that blue color that looks kind of like "Sour Blue" is really a "Cian Blue" under XP. It is exactly the same blue color used on XP's original Luna, but look how different it appears under Vista.
Also most of the stuff I do on Photoshop are displayed using "Adobe color management" and once I export to PNG or anything else, It is displayed using Vista color management which changes every color drasticly
I don't know what the heck...

Also there is a file called STREAM.PNG which contains the Aero effects. I've been trying the effects of the window buttons in a different color other than red and blue (you know the glow-fade effect? yeah...) Also the background used for rendering Aero is also there, its a big pasted image to the right. Change this to whatever you want and you can have nice backgrounds under the transparency of Windows Aero. Pretty badass
