I'm in the market for a new camera, again (Bought a laptop last time I was looking for a camera whistle.gif ). Stolen from my other thread:
  • 5 megapixel+
  • Good zoom
  • Good movie mode, I use my cam to take a few movies too
  • Another good whistle.gif , good quality pictures
  • As said in another thread, i'd like one for advanced amateurs, there just isn't enough settings for me to play with on my finepix 2800Z.
  • Takes SD memory card (i've got around 6gb of space in SD cards, nice to beable to use them with new camera wink.gif )
  • Fits into my budget, i'd say max is around £250, witch is $490 accross the pond.

I've been looking at the new Panasonic DMC-FZ8, it seems to tick all the boxes, but i'm wondering if there are any better ones for the price.

Cheers.

I personally would recommend a Canon PowerShot SD630 or even the SD700IS (the IS is for "image stabilization," which is a very nice feature). Both seem to fit right in your budget and are EXCELLENT cameras.

Honestly I wouldn't go with anything but a Canon or a Nikon. Quality-wise, those are the best.

Hmm, the SD630 only has 3x optical zoom compared to the 12x of the panasonic (Its also around £100 cheaper, but i've already stated my budget wink.gif ).

If you're willing to expand that budget by £49 look into the Powershot G7 an absolutely awesome camera!!

well, considering what you need, I would recommend a DSLR-Like camera. Something like Canon S3 or a Panasonic model.

Yep, ended up with a Panasonic DMC-FZ8 for £210 ($410) including postage and a 2gb SD card (Going to get a 4/8gb SDHC).
