Ritalin
Hey everyone!
I have an Edimax AR-7064G+A and while it is configured properly in order to have ports opened and stuff, every so often it disconnects, and reconnects within a minute but with a different external IP.
That is quite an annoyance for me.

I looked at the logs in the router and here is what it says:

Can anybody understand this and tell me for sure if it's due to my PC or router or ISP or anything?
Thanks in advance everybody!

It could be that your ISP is kicking you off, read their T&C's. As for your external IP changing, its quite normal for that to happen, unless you pay for a static
Ritalin
I realize that the external IP changing is totally normal, but it's doing it every hour or so... and it's getting quite annoying!
What im basically wondering is why it's kicking me off every hour or so, and i posted those logs from my router because im sure some people out here would be able to understand that gibberish lol.

Here is an idea, why don't you call your ISP.
Ritalin
and say what? hey my router, which you do not sell so dont offer support for, loses sync at random times and it's getting annoying. I don't know what's doing it. help?
Im trying to see if those logs can tell us anything before i act.
RaisinCain
Try updating the firmware first.

Edimax AR-7064G+A
i can't seem to find any new firmwares anywhere...
RaisinCain
Have you tried resetting the router?

Um ask them why the IP Address that they provide and support is changeing so frequently. Ask them if the line that they supply and support is dropping, if they say it is then wow problem solved it is an ISP issue. If they say it isn't then it may be an issue with your router. Any drops in service your first call should be the ISP. unsure.gif
Ritalin
i agree mate.
but the reason i posted is to see if anything can be done with the logs, do they tell us anything?
TurboTuna
If they actually told us anything, somebody would have said it by now, theres no need to keep asking. Try whatever device you got from your isp with your connection, see if it still disconnects then.

The IP address changing isn't a bug, it's a feature. Whenever the router (re)connects to the ISP, you get a fresh IP. It's a good thing, imagine Rapidshare downloads without an hourly limit wink.gif

Anyways, the main issue here is that your connection is getting dropped. This is usually caused due to a faulty line. Pickup your telephone, dial a number and listen- do you hear any sort of noise? Also, did you connect the ADSL filter properly? Remember, there should be no parallel connections/extentions to your phoneline before the filter- all parallel lines/extensions should be made after and through the filter only! Any sort of extension before the filter creates noise in the line.

Secondly, try getting a hold of some other router and connect using it, to check if its a problem with the line or router.
