At the online community Neowin.net, a discussion of the story included comments from someone listing their location as New York who said the school she works at received a mass e-mail with the article.

A second Neowin user offered: "Oh God, my town. Our city is so overpopulated with this. BISD is abysmal. The education in Beaumont is so freaking bad. I am so glad to be out of there."

More than 170 comments were posted to the story at BeaumontEnterprise.com, with the writers listing locations across the nation.

About a dozen commenters chewed on the story at freerepublic.com, where the story was posted Tuesday morning.

Mainstream media outside Southeast Texas were slowly picking up the story Wednesday.
