IOWA CITY, Iowa — An Iowa family filed a lawsuit seeking damages over a snake head they claim to have found in a can of green beans. noexpression.gif

Amy and Michael Schneider and their four children are suing Lakeside Foods of Manitowoc, Wis., and Supervalue Inc. of Eden Prairie, Minn.

Supervalue is the parent company of the Cub Foods store where the can of green beans was bought in Iowa City.

Amy Schneider said she found the head when she opened the can of green beans on March 24, 2006. It was about the size of a golf ball, she said.

"It was ... yuck, it was really yuck," she said. "It was gross."

She said Lakeside Foods offered her some coupons when she complained.

"And of course it was for their brand, and I thought, `I'm never going to buy that product again,"' she said. "I won't ever eat a green bean again, probably."

The entire family experienced mental anguish, according to the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Johnson County District Court.

Any excuse for a law suit these days.

I blame the lawyers personally.. they should be telling them to get lost, but instead they get to cast aside what little morality they have in the pursuit of glorious cash.

Its disgraceful.

grean beans with an unearthy taste...hhmmm.......that funky!

Extra protein ? laugh.gif We have Lakeside beans around here. Need to pick up a few cans.

I did find a piece of 'rubber' from a machine I guess, inside a can of Coke once -- I didn't sue.

Ever heard of something called professional ethics? The lawyers can't bring their own morals into it and interfere with what the client wants. They are obliged to do the very best they could for the client.

I've heard of snakes in a can of mixed nuts, but beans are unheard of tongue.gif

I actually prefer the mouse heads seasoning in mine, tongue.gif
but you have to get the really large-sized cans otherwise there won't be enough beans for a meal.

Actually that is a very important point about lawyers. They are there to help people solve their legal problems. That is their professional duty.

Of course they can turn down clients they don't want but if they think a client has a case ( strong or weak-but-possibly-winable ) then it is only good practice to run with it.

This type of crap really ****es me off. If i found something in my food that wasn't supposed to be there, I would chuck it out the window and continue eating. Quit ****ing whining, it's not like it was a deadly chemical sleeping.gif

Pathetic. She should have been refunded or given another tin. Or told "Well, it's free - we won't charge you for the snakes head".

Problem is the legal system in the states. From what I understand, it costs nothing to file a case like this - so why the hell not. In the UK, costs are involved so people are often forced to think twice.

I agree. There is a small fee to file ($30 or so)... and in my opinion, if the cost was higher, it might deter some of these ridiculous lawsuits.

Anyway, it's indicative of a large problem- our legal system, like you said. People can sue anyone for anything. There should be some sort of screening process to at least ensure the lawsuit isn't totally baseless.

My inmates are famous for that. (Well, not just mine, actually). They'll sue the Department of Corrections because they don't like the color of their cell... or some other BS like that. It ****es me off.

I've been to that grocery store in Iowa City...and I definitely didn't get any snake heads in my food tongue.gif

But really, I don't think it's something that's worth suing for. If it happened to me, I'd bring the can back to the store, show them what's wrong, and ask for a new one.

I like how they're trying to sue the parent company of the store they purchased it from, as if the store can look inside a closed can of beans and see a snake head rolleyes.gif
