I know that Yahoo, Google, Ask.com's toolbars do not work with opera 9, but are there any other major toolbars that have alot of features that do?

This really sucks that none of these companies care enough about opera (opera is a pretty sweet browser) to design their toolbars to be compatible.

I'm sure some company has though. Does anyone know of any? I googled, and searched everywhere but have yet to find a real good one.

thanks

What features from these toolbars do you need though?

Opera does not support any sort of Toolbar API. However, there are ways to emulate the same features from those toolbars whithout having to install a separate toolbar. A simple edit of the existing toolbars can duplicate most of those features.

I've found that most of the toolbar functionality I want can be made with the (awesome) search functionality. Just find the search site you want to add, be it Yahoo, Google Ask or Images. Then right-click on the search field, and select "Add search..." from the menu.

I've got google images on "i", which means all I need to do is hit
CODE
F2 + i + <space> + <search words> + <enter>
and there I go. Much quicker than reaching for a button.

Yeah i don't want the toolbars for their search input form. Opera has one built in. Alot of these toolbars have awesome other features.

Anyways I had to quit using opera. Why? It doesn't really support anything I use, such as roboform.
I wanted to use the google toolbar because of the spellcheck and some other features that work alot better than using aspell or using the user javascript files.

Sooner or later they'll have to support features such as this if they want to have a wider range of audience. THere is no reason why they shouldn't support popular password management programs such as roboform.

I don't like the way the wand works.

Actually it's Roboform that should support Opera, not the other way around. I'm pretty sure the functionality is there but the 3rd party developers are too lazy/don't have time to implement them.

This is not true. Roboform needs an API to integrate itself with Opera. Since Opera is all locked down and doesnt provide any API its impossible for any software developer to integrate itself with Opera. At the moment Opera makes it impossible for Roboform to work with Opera.

Roboform in its current implementation makes it impossible to work in Opera, however is it really impossible for the devs of roboform to create a userjs for opera to use and a button inside the page or on a toolbar to initiate it? And create an API to create something that exists outside browsers?

It doesn't make sense that something like an autosizer image extension is also possible using a userjs that uses existing features and doesn't unnecessarily harm performance.

And that something like SnapLinks was made possible using a Userjs, of course not all the features are there, like file writing and menu additions and addition of toolbar items etc, but there are workarounds that don't always need a firefox like extension system to make similar features.

well, I always miss the "site rating" and "translate balloon" functionality of Google Toolbar, albeit I can live without them since Opera is better in almost all aspects except extensibility. I know it's quite easily to tweak the context menu and with a click it can show the site rating and phrase translation in a new tab, but it's just not convenient.

Sure a lot of functions can be emulated with a search, but the whole point of modern web browsers is to make things easier, to present information in a more accessible and user-friendly way, else we should just stick with tables and forms instead of css styling and ajax since they can provide most of the functions anyway.

Now with IE8's Activities and WebSlices, I surely hope Opera can open up a bit and provide at least some interfaces for extensibility and/or browser shells. Then it will be the greatest thing ever on Earth ™
