Hello all, this is a follow up to my previous post about screen real estate (and apologies for posting it in the wrong forum). I haven't yet found a solution but I believe I have managed to narrow down exactly what minor visual aspect it is which annoys me. And yes I completely admit that I am being very particular on this small issue .

My issue is with visual styles for menus, I really prefer the classic look for all menus. I have two reasons for this; first the styled menus are too big, there is no reason they should take up so much room. Second not all menus in applications are styled and that creates ugly visual inconsistencies. I've attached a composited screen shot showing two vista style menus and two classic style.

Googleing turned up this nice post about Vista Style Menus on shell: revealed.

So my question is would anyone here know if there is a reg tweak, dll hack or anything at all to disable Vista VS's only for menus?

Once again, I know I'm being anal about this but it would be great if I could find a solution.
