What would you suggest for the cache settings for Opera 9?

the only reason i ever stopped using opera is because I hate the cache settings, and no matter what i change them to, they suck!

usually the settings make it so that I never see the new pages or anything when i visit them. A Strong example of this would be forums and new messages, i usually do not see the new ones unless i manually hit refresh.

I'd like to find away to make them similar to the default cache settings in firefox.

i have opera set up so that it always checks for new versions of the pages and images, or set the images to an hour, but this doesn't really work out well since there is a pause before the page loads because its checking the server. However i find this to be the only solution if i always want the newest material.

I never have this problem in firefox, so why couldn't opera's cache operate the same way? I'm sure that there is a way.

There are many reasons why i'm not too fond of firefox right now. Although it is my default browser at the current time.

Does anyone know of some really good cache settings for opera to get the best results that i'd love to see in it?

I really want to stick with opera this time, which is why i finally want to find a solution to this annoyance that i have with it.

thanks.

Excuse the hijack, but what is that theme you're using? Is it just a visual style or Windowblinds? That green wood look is kind of cool.

Trying the settings now. Wow! Noticeable increase in pages opening up. Thanks

Looks like the OP already did this, Darken.

Try altering the page redraw value:
Ctrl + F12 (or Tools -> Preferences...) -> Advanced -> Browsing -> Loading.

I have mine set tto Redraw Instantly and have no delays when loading pages, however...I'm not too sure what you originally meant sasketCae. Let me know if this helps or if you can provided a more detailed explanation, I'll see if I know how to fix it.

I would also set the cache to be on a different drive than default.. i.e NOT the install dir or user... makes helladiffrenz..

find opera6.ini and add

[User Prefs]
Cache Directory4=<YOUR DIR HERE e.g. d:\cache>

try setting

CODE
opera:config#UserPrefs|HistoryNavigationMode

to 1, or 2 (not 3)

edit: This setting is for the instant back/forward feature. Default is 2, which supposedly doesn't do instant back/forward on forums and such. Sometimes it doesn't work though. Set it to 1 to disable instant back/forward.
