Ok... I think this is probably something so stupid but I cannot find out how this happened.... if I click on a link to download something in IE6.. the box pops up asking if I want to Save... I no longer have the option to just open.... is this something that can easily be fixed... also.. how did it happen?

It's for security, so maybe there's an option in the security section that you can change.
It might mean lowering the zone though, which I would recommend against doing.

i looked and the only option i have is to enable or disable downloads.... so i dont think its that.. plus i never changed any of the settings... one day it just popped open without the option to "open"

Windows update may have changed it. Am I right in thinking this is for EXE files only?

nope... its any attachment.... jpeg, doc, anything...

cleared history, deleted all temp internet files as well....

Try disabling all plugins? Windows Messenger, Toolbars etc. Update to IE7 if possible?
