So ever since I reformatted my computer months ago and reinstalled windows, IE7 will not run on my PC. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but every time I open it, it hangs.

Nothing loads on it, I can move my mouse, but clicking anywhere gives me an error beep, but no error message. What's even weirder is that the task manager doesn't show any open programs at all. I have to find IE7 in the processes and shut it down from there. After closing it, my PC runs fine.

I have been using Firefox without issue for all this time, which is fine with me, except that there are certain web applications that require IE7, such as Creative's autoupdate.

I've been through Microsoft's troubleshooting and knowledgebase, but I have been unable to find any solutions so far. Any help anyone has would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Any ideas?

You can use IE plug in for Firefox. Works great. As far as IE 7 do you still have IE 6? Make sure you have all the latest Shockwave and Falsh player plug ins. Did you download IE 7 from somewhere or did you have a copy of it? I never use IE 7 at all anyways. I only ever use Firefox. Can you roll back to IE6? Does IE 6 work ok? Yahoo Toolbar was hanging IE 7 at times.

Have you called MS as IE is a critical update and if it does not work after install
the support should be free
under the hotfix program

IE 7 is not a critical update. Lots of people are still using IE 6.

How soon after you reformatted did you install IE7? You may want to try to go into internet options in the control panel, and click on the advanced tab. Then click repair.

IE 7 is being pushed via Windows Updates and install support for IE 7 is free of charge. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/...ticupdates.mspx

That's a good idea - I'll try that. Thanks!

Since IE came with XP Pro, i didn't install it per se, but already had it installed with windows. I updated it to IE7, but did not think to roll it back to IE6. If the IE plugin for Firefox doesn't work I might try that next.

I tried repairing already and it didn't do anything to help.
