Maxthon 2.0.8 FINAL Released!

The Chinese New Year is coming, Maxthon take this opportunity to release a version —— Maxthon 2.0.8 Chinese New Year Edition.

In this version, two highly anticipated features have been added - the support for IE/COM plugins, and "Maxthon Downloader", a high speed integrated download manager.

To use IE plugins in Maxthon: Click "Tools" > "Maxthon Setup Center" > "Plugins" > "IE Extensions" and select from the list of installed IE plugins.
(Please note that the use of IE plugins may affect stability of Maxthon and please use with care.)

To use Maxthon Downloader as default download tool: Click "Tools" > "Maxthon Setup Center" > "File Download" and select "Maxthon Downloader".

Downloading and downloaded tasks can be managed in "Maxthon Downloader" tab: Click "Tools" > "Maxthon Downloader" to access.

(If "Maxthon Downloader" does not appear in the "Tools" menu, please reset the menu bar: Right Click "Tools" > "Add or Remove Buttons" > "Reset")

Maxthon Downloader supports innovative P2P technology which can improve download speed, and enable download of some files which no longer hosted in the original server. P2P is not enabled by default, and can be enabled in "Connection Setting".

Besides the above new features, this version has also made a lot of improvements to the existing features.
For example, download function is added to the context menu of the "File Snipper" dialog so any files can be conveniently saved locally.

Last, Maxthon has created a new skin for celebration of the Chinese festival. The new skin can be downloaded from Maxthon Addons.

Edit: I did not really describe the problem that I am having with Maxthon. Please if anyone has some help or advice I would be very grateful! The problem was NOT resolved after I updated Maxthon. I thought it was! I use Firefox, Maxthon and IE7. Maxthon is my main browser. The problem ONLY occurs when I am at Neowin, no other sites seem to be a problem! If I have opened a thread in a new tab and try to refresh the page it refuses to reload the page. If I close the browser using the setting that opens the last pages that were in use everything reloads and all is well again! Try to refresh a page at Neowin and the same thing happens again! Using IE7 or Firefox this does not happen!? I can refresh ANY other web pages in Maxthon and I do not have this issue! I am completely stumped and the worst part of the problem is that Neowin is the site that I visit every day and when you are following a topic I do not want to have to close the browser and restart it every time I need to refresh a page! Help would be great, thanks in advance!

2.0.8 final version is out already!

The Downloader(and browser) is nice but it still have lots and lots, lots of huge rooms for improvement.

It would be nice if they could:
- Implement option to have the download info window show only when downloading and make it auto close on download done.
- Implement option to auto delete completed tasks. (theres deted task and recycle bin = manually del 2 times)
- If possible make the Maxthon Downloader to have its own window, like the one from IE7Pro.
- Or maybe put it to the sidebar.

I don't quite like their idea of dumping features into webpages, like the Setup Center and the Downloader.

Simply try TheWorld instead.

I tried Maxthon for almost 2 years from classical edition to 2.x alpha, beta to current 2.0.8.1720. But no matter what version Maxthon is, it has a severe memory leak & GDI leak. That can not be tolerated.

TheWorld 2.x implements MOST of Maxthon functions, including 'one-thread per tab' feature as well, and IMHO transporting Maxthon plug-ins to TheWorld is farely easy.

The only thing I missed for Maxthon is FLV-sniffering. I have to keep Orbit's Grab++ open to capture stream URLs.

So try the 888KiB single-exe TheWorld:

I must check filehippo for some updates to my programs and this will probably be there.

You should be more open minded! Maxthon totally beats FF hands down.
Its not based on IE, it uses the IE core, and it used to have a second rendering engine that could be used anyway - not sure if they still implement that.

Try it! You'll love it!
Plus it'll be more secure than FF is anyway smile.gif

It'd be nice if Maxthon could atleast pass the ACID2 test. I'll stick with my FF3-preB5.

Maxthon uses IE's rendering engine so if IE passes ACID2 (which it does in IE8) then Maxthon will pass ACID2.

Maxthon barely scores 14 in the Acid 3 Test.

I suggest you take a look at the zoom drop down in the bottom right corner then. You can use the pre-defined or enter your own numeric zoom values, under 100% too.

Maxthon uses IE's rendering engine and there is no point to measure maxthon's score in rendering engine tests.

If IE8's engine can pass the acid test, maxthon will also pass when it has made the changes required, obviously not at the moment, to use the IE8 engine the same way as IE8 does.

Yet I couldn't care less of the acid test as I don't browse it even once a year.
