Hi all, I have the Canon Rebel XT, and I have the trnscend Cf card 4Gig. I am new to all this so please bare with me. I just installed the Canon software in my windows vista pc. I took a few pictures with my Rebel XT and wanted to upload them to my pc. I connected both via USB and a box appears opens asking to chose the program I want to open. The box is blank however, there are no choices. I then double clicked the EOS utility program and it opens, but I cannot select anything other than folders option. No chance to upload my pictures.
Same results trying zoombrowser.
I also tried the exact same thing using my windows xp machine and I got the same results. Am I doing something wrong? No programs let me upload to the pc.
I was able to pull the cf card from the camera , and I stuck it in my photo printer and I was able to ulpoad that way. But I want to be able to connect via camera to PC.

Please help!

Can it be conflicting software problems, I have older cameras with older software installed that I cant delete for some reason.
I also notice windows vista installing software when I plug the USb cable in , even though I dont want it to.

This may not apply to you since you have a Canon, but in my Nikon camera there is a setting in the menu that deals with the USB connectivity of the camera. One is used for transferring files over to the PC and the other is used when using Nikon Capture and firing the cameras shutter with the PC instead of with the shutter release button on the camera. I am not sure if your camera has a similar setting in it but it's worth checking out.

Check your camera settings to make sure it has pc communications selected. (not in PTP mode)

Also, are you running the latest software?

Mind showing a screenshot of what the software is showing when its connected?

Do you have the latest WIA driver? Might need to uninstall and reinstall it. (I'm guessing that the camera software/drivers is conflicting with your old ones installed. Something similar happened to me when I had my XT and then went to 30D.)

But in the end, you really should get a CF card reader. It's faster, doesn't use battery life, and you won't get caught flinging your camera off the desk.
